Water Pump Differences

Anyone know if there are different versions out there for the 200? I.E. long snout vs short snout? I seem to remember something about one used in the Bronco that had more flow. What I'm after is one with a short snout that offers more fan/radiator clearance.

An 80s engine has a different part number than the 68 version but I don't know what the difference might be.

I've never heard of a long versus short, but I have heard that some have cast impellers, some have steel impellers and other still have a backing plate on the impeller. The steel ones with backing plate are supposed to flow more (from what I've heard anyhow).

1978 Fairmont and similar have a long snout, thus requiring the proper pulley to compensate or there will be clearance problems with the radiator. They also have a better impeller.

Thanks guys. I guess I was hoping the 68 was the longer snout  Bought an aluminum radiator and I'd like to use a clutch fan set up with it. Back to the drawing board!
