What am I missing...?

Ok, well I got my ignition switch replaced..the starter solenoid still whirrs/growls when I turn the key to start..to reiterate, I've installed a new ignition switch, new battery, and it's pulling 12.4volts, Ive tried two new solenoids, starter checks out good, Got new firewall to engine wiring harness, new ground strap from starter to firewall....what am I missing..does a bad coil or points, etc affect all this?????The points and condensor are new if so... Any tips on how to literally run a meter check on grounds and where they all are?..what about the voltage regulator? How would I check that, if that's a start issue....also the alternator checked good....I'm getting juice from the ignition, through the battery, and on to the solenoid, but it just growls at me..I've also tried to start in neutral, park and all gears so I dont think it's the neutral switch..I'm running out of options, but I know it's gotta be a simple fix..I just want her to start !!!
Thanks, Kelly

so the solenoid just clicks right? and theres a new starter right? im assuming from your name you have a 66 coupe with a 200 and an automatic correct? there should be a ground wire that runs from the one of two starter bolts to the fire wall near the fan blower motor. check that. also there should be a ground on the motor in the front near the tstat housing check and clean both of these connections. also try to start it at the solenoid crossing the two terminals with a screw driver and try to hot wire it that way to elimenate some items. does everything else work in the car? lights and radio and heater fan ? maybe you have wires disconnected form the solenoid? i did that once by accident the solenoid could click but car not start.

trashline,

yeah, the ground from the starter to the firewall next to the blower is new/replaced, and all the connections are good to the solenoid..All the electrical accessories work, it's just when I crank the engine, the starter solenoid makes a growling/buzzing noise.. took the starter, alternator and the New battery to A'zone and all check out fine...Just put a new ignition switch in thinking that was it..apparantly wasn't... And the firewall to engine wiring harness is new/replaced....It's a 200. Does a bad coil, or anything on that side have effect on this?

a bad coil wont cause anything to grind..it will still try to turn over but wont catch and start...i have had my coil wire wrap around the steering ( i fixed that problem) and the coil wire disconnected...thats even deader than a dead coil and i thought i had another problem at first....so i dont think a coil would give u that problem.

I'll keep grindin'...the problems lies somewhere under the hood...

Anybody see anything I'm not covering to check?..battery-ignition-solenoid-starter...and the included wire connections to include grounds?

i think you need to quaddrupple check your connections on the solenoid. something is crossed i think or put on the wrong spot. and i think you might of be burning up the solenoid. if everything is checked and there isnt much to a 66 then thats what i would think do you have a wiring diagram? or a pic ? i can send you one tomorrow to use as a reference

Thanks Trashline

My wife made some poster size printouts of the 66 wiring diagrams that have been posted here, and another board, so I need to hang that sucker up on my grill and start re-checking everything. One solace to the frustration is that I finally got my ignition put back in, Geez, that thing can be a b****, made me into somewhat of a contortionist.
