What kind of RPM's should be 223 be running, on the high end?

For over 10 years I'v been afraid rev it up over 3000-3200..

I just looked in the freaking Motor manual and it doesnt show it hitting peak torque untill 3600..

Then you without a doubt have the nicest piston rings in the country.

Inlines have incredible revving capacity, but it mostly depends on how many mains the block has. these other guys know exactly what your engine will safely handle, but its definetly way beyond your current man-made redline.
3600 rpm? my 56 223 hits peak torque at 2000 rpm. i think my max hp is right about 3200 though.

My piston rings may be nice (they only have ~19k miles on them?)..

My valve train sucks pretty bad, my rocker arm assembly is beat to hell, i have to do a valve adjustment every 600 miles or so.. sounds like a '68 bug on the highway by the time i hit 40.

I just picked up a new (old stock) rocker arm assembly in really really REALLY good shape, from ebay. $35. Neat.

However..

I started my truck, pulled it forward 10 feet to open the gate to my backyard. Opened the gate. Went to start it to pull back to where my garage is so i can swap the rockers out.. truck wouldnt turn over.

I'm like, funny time for the starter to go? (after making sure it wasnt electrical).. replaced the starter, still nothing.
(insert fruitless troubleshooting here)

Drained the oil, found telltail shreds of metel the size of thumbnails.

Engine is siezed solid. I have the pan off, but i havent gotten as far as pulling rod/main cap's yet to see what I can see.. but the crank on this is already .30/.40, so I dont forsee another rebuild on it. If it comes down to that, I'm probably going the way of an FE block and AOD tranny.. the 223/t98 combo has treated me really well.. but i'm getting old and want the luxeries.

Blah. I'm gonna stop this rant and go find coffee.
Good morning all.

I'v had that thought, but havent gotten that far into it yet.

I work about 45 miles from home, and commute across Los Angeles, so its already 7-8 pm when i get home from work.. dinner, a beer, that leaves me maybe an hour in the dark to work before going to sleep, to get up at 5am and leave for work again ;)

ebays got a couple of resurfaced cranks right now for 75 bones.
