Okay guys, I have an interesting problem. As some of you know I have had problems getting a starter for my car (I can't get a starter to work on my 1965 200 CID mustang Coupe). Well, after trying several from several places, I can't get one to start the car - the just spin the bendix gear, but never hit the flywheel to engage the engine (meaning = wrong starter!). So, the only solution I can come to is that my otherwise completely original (parts wise!) 65 stang does NOT have the original tranny - maybe somebody before switched in a tranny out of a later year which would make my starters not work - It has a 3 speed manuel tranny in it - how do I know what year it is to find out what starter to use?

Thanks a lot guys, this has been very frustrating - Great "GT200" car, recently finished, and I can't get it to start!!!

I don't really know, I'm asking what it could be.... Here is my situation. I haven't been able to get a starter to work, I have tried all starters listed for a 1965 mustang and all of them except one had the wrong bolt pattern and so wouldn't even fit, and the one that I got that had the right bolt pattern wouldn't touch the flywheel to engage it (that either my flywheel or - I assumed- the bendix gear in the starter was too small). I'm just trying to find some answer as to what starter I need....

What your is your block? How many starter bolts? How many bolts on the top cover of the tranny?

I have a 200 CID engine in a 1965 Mustang Coupe. The starter for it is a Three bolt pattern. As far as the tranny bolts... Not sure, would have to check...
