All Small Six Snowcat with a Six - Getting a 1968 Thiokol Spryte up to Speed!

This relates to all small sixes
Looking at where the alternator mounts and the direction it needs to pull (away from the water pump) you may have a hard time getting the belt to tighten enough; that alternator is going to put a lot of strain on a v-belt.
My thoughts here are:
1. Can the pump be left in place and still use the auxiliary Davies pump? It seems a possibility, and looking on the Davies site this can be done
2. Pull the impeller off the pump and use it as an idler assembly? Looking on the Davies site you can do this also.
3. Make a block-off that will have a idler to go in place of the water pump

With complexity and timing, I might be pulling back from the water pump project - I have the feeling it might be better to delay as the scope will likely creep into the timing chain, etc. Plus, again, I'm running out of time/daylight. I need to stick to y'alls advice of just running with "plug and play" this year!

This leaves me with the electrical. I've put together a component list and am feeling out outsourcing to an electrical engineer (or close to it), but at first blush this is dicey and expensive. But I want to feel more confident with a wiring diagram customized to my specs! Any suggestions here? I really haven't found a reference diagram around... would I be looking for an original Falcon one?

Oh... and when I fired her up to turn her around the transmission was crazy sluggish to switch into gear - and it often didn't after 1-2 attempts. Kinda freaking me out. Thoughts on the C4 here?

Change the fluid.

As for electrical, I've been holding back on commenting, seems you're moving well away from what it was. How did it perform electrically last year? Aside from the electric cooling fan, what's different? My point is, if it functioned ok last winter, maybe go with the stronger alternator and enjoy another season. ??
