I was reading Inliner's post...and rereading Inliner's post...and far in the distance, past the breeze and diesels (yes, I'm back at sea) I hear the PURPLE HORNIES calling!
  I wonder if anything is left from the Clifford days!

I knew about "Uncle Ben's" really! I was playing on the idea it was something French, thus perhaps undesirable.

In Australia this is a pet food company. They make cat and dog foods in cans. Not rice for human consumption. Also, "rice burner" is a relatively unknown term here.

FWIW, I am leaning towards glasspacks for my triple SU 221 motor. Mainly to mock my neighbour's ones.

All you guys who are from the Americas will be pleased that I have poluted the vocab of my kids...any Jap car which is lowered in an instant "RICER!!!!"

Soon Australia will follow suit, we just gotta work on Addo!

My Falcon runs a stock exhast with a big header set at the moment. A 1 7/8" outlet doesn't look cool at all, but it is quieter at idle and full revs. The exhast resonates a little at off-idle to about 2500 rpm. I need a grunty sound that doesn't get me arrested.

 Since my car has no gasoline tank, I really want to poke two large mufflers out back and straight pipes to that from two 2.25" collectors at the header. I may have look at reversed glass packs from the front, which are also 2.25 inch. I used to run them on my V6 Cortina before the turbo forced me to go to a big single. And that sounded tough!

heres what i would do i am doing it to my car

Get dual outlet headers from Cliffy Or Mike, come out with 1 1/2 inch pipe go with 2 flowmaster 50 sereis mufflers and put glass packed tips on it, This should make it sound sweet and wont cost you to much probly $650.

I have the Dynomax Superflows... I dont think I have a sound bite n my web site but you can look at the set up.. nice sound at idle..
No one will ever think its a 6 coming up next to them..
I'm getting the headers coated right now but will have a sound bite soon...

Sorry gentlemen, I have a graduated to a much more sophisticated taste. I can't hear the exhaust from my Cougar at idle or even at 6,500 rpms, and you know what - I like it :) I'd have listened to Purple Hornies over the old AM radio I had in the Mustang anyday...

Beware of anyone who describes themselves as "sophisticated"... :P

Since you want dual exhaust then I'd go with Dynomax Super Turbos, hell probably any turbo style muffler will sound alright.

Maybe think about Magnaflow too or Dynomax Ultra Flo, they don't sound all that bad. Just get one long enough so you don't lose all the lowend.

hey Yall

i am a very sophisticated Nevadin he he he how ever i am so sophisticated so beware

Don't use cheap turbos, I used Turbo 2s from AutoZoo and they sound like crap at any thing above idle. Suonds like a f---ing Honda with a fart can. Russell

I prefer something quiet, and maybe the slight sound of a turbo "whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiish"

What are you running in there now, and how do you like the current setup... I am looking for quieter options, I already did enough damage to my hearing years ago, and I like to be able to hear the stereo.

Hey Jim, I salvaged the mandrel Y-pipe from the Mustang and was able to fit it to the Mav. I didn't want the big green Mav sounding anywhere near obnoxious just yet, so I fitted a Walker O.E. style 6" round muffler to it. I like it. It has a good growl when you get on it, but still quiet enough to hear the engine whirring.

It will sound like a riced out fart can!! The guy will tell you anything you want to hear so he can sell a pair of ricer fart can mufflers!! If you do get them get personalized plates that read "UNCLEBEN".

I was having a boring day until I read this reply, Ted!

Heres another suggestion.

I had two Flowmaster 40 series delta flows installed on my mustang today. 2" center in / offset out.

I'd have installed Dynomax Super Turbos, but, the exhaust shop that gives me good deals doesn't carry Dynomax anymore. Magnaflow with its straight through design wouldn't have been too differen't than my glasspacks.

I'd have tried the 50 series (another chamber and longer) or the 60 series (another chamber and wider -for small displacement engines) but the 40 series DFs were cheaper.

I have definitely picked up some power- in the lowend and midrange mostly. They sound awsome, at idle and part throttle they sound -like a V8 of course- and then at w.o.t. they sound like a six, a beastly six. There is no droning as far as I can tell but they are probably louder (yet they are Delta Flows which are supposed to be quieter) than most of the older guys on this site would like (sorry :D ).

Bottom line though, theyre awsome. Plus they were cheap too, $200 for the mufflers and a pretty darn good install job.

Last summer i had a new exhaust put on my 80 I6.

I had 2 1/4" down to cat, then a cherry bomb after that then a Y-splitter to dual 2 1/4" tailpipes. Since my ar had a converter and they abosrb a fair amount of sound it jsut ahad a throaty growl to it.

I used to get lots of compliments and everyone thought it was a V8. The look on their face when you told them it was a I6 was priceless.

Is this with headers? I have a set of cheapo turbos the exhaust shop put on when I had my duals fabricated. They sound decent on the stock engine. If they're gonna sound like crap with headers, looks like I'm gonna have to try Borlas.

Or...

Has anyone ever tried MAC flowpaths on an inline?
I'm running them on my 3.8 and even with the H-pipe to cut down on some of the noise, they still sound mean. Since they do a good job making the V6 sound as close to a V8 as possible, I wonder if they'd be a good muffler for the inline. :?: :?

if you wanna hear what a car sounds like with duel cheery bombs then go to mustangaroo's site and look at his last video you can hear him drive off. i like mine i think they sound really cool and man are they loud!! but mine leaks... are you suposed to use locking bolts at the end of the header???? cause i think mine keeps coming loose.
