i went out and started my car yesterday and i heard a whistling sound it would stop if i pull the throttle alittle bit but the when i let the throttle go it started again. so i started searching around the carb and found two holes in the side of the carb that were sucking air they look like they are supposed to have screws in them or vacuum lines. they are right on top of eachother on the left side near the back corner. i believe it is the stock carb. it is a 1980 merc capri. and i was also wordering if any body here has deleted their egr setup if so, do you have the tube and would you be willing to spare it? thanks in advanced.

if someone could tell me what all the holes are that would be great. and the other hole i circled with the stick poking out has got me stump[/img]

Not knowing what kind of carb it is I can't say as to what the port to the right is, mite be ported vacuum (senses the vacuum at the venturi) . However the two holes to the left are for the choke. One is just a threaded boss. The other smaller hole is manifold vacuum. Looks like you are missing the entire choke assembly. That vacuum hole is used to draw heated air through the choke disk. When you get around to replacing the choke assembly make sure that threaded boss and vacuum port has the proper gasket.

Good luck, Ric.

Its good if you have deer in your area. People put whistlers on their cars in certain areas here, the quicker you drive, the more whistle, to make sure deer know theyre coming.

All kidding aside, if its sucking in, I would figure out what goes where, because you could get contaminants in your float bowl, etc.
