I have been throwing around the idea of putting a turbo on the stang, but I have also ran the idea of a T5 five speed thru as well. Heres what Im thinkin, yall let me know what you think is the best way to go. My car is a daily driver, about 80,000 miles and the mods done below. THe tranny needs to be rebuilt because it SUCKS. I want to be able to hold my own on the streets and maybe someday do some drag racing. What would you do?

a. Turbo, intercooler, BOV, wastegate, header etc. but I would have to prolly just rebuild the C4 for money sake.

b. T5 tranny, full roller rockers, pushrods, lifters etc. Better cam, so fourth and so on.

Again, I want the car to run reliably which is starting to run me away from the turbo idea, and I want to be quick, which makes me want the turbo. My tranny is dieing fast and I would love the 5 speed for the overdrive gear and I just plain love 5 speeds. What would yall say is a good way to go? I have the turbo, but I can always just do the 5 speed etc and put the turbo on some other time too. I want to be quick and have a reliable care at the same time, what yall got in mind????

Thanx for reading and helpin out guys, again all this is up for grabs, I just got alot of people tellin me turbo, others sayin, nah, T5 and then others sayin sell and buy a v8 (I dont listen to them much  ) I should be gettin this project going this summer maybe, and Im lookin to spend around a grand give or take a couple hundred, anyone got any project ideas for me? Lemme know!

OK, you will have to buy the V8 T-5 trans if you want turbo, or use a Celica 5-slot box. They are about the easiest two available to handle the power and have good ratios.

You'll save a little money with the OD for now, and the later enhancements won't bust what's already there. Turbo will take some time and planning, but parts can be "built in" as you go, and this will reduce the down time in final stages of the install.

Regards, Adam.

Matt,

You know I'm a died-in-the-wool turbo lover, but my vote is for a T-5. I had the trans rebuilt in both my 66's (Fairlane and Stang), and felt it was way worth the money.

So if ya got tranny problems, address them first and get your ride reliable. Then save your pennies for a turbo!

Sounds good. I have the turbo, but I need more parts to complete the job than just the turbo, lol (duhhh), but even if I had them all I wouldnt get much out of it cause the tranny sucks. I will prolly look into the tranny before I do the rest of the car. I would love to do a T5 over rebuilding my C4 but I will have to see what money is available. If I do the T5 now, I will then prolly save up and do full roller rockers etc from FSP and then work the turbo in at a later time when the money is available. Ide also like to look into a new better head as well. WOrk all I can NA then turbo it. I dunno, it all depends on circumstanses I guess!

You'll love the T5. Great upgrade.

I would do the turbo last. It won't kill reliability. Heck, Volvo uses them and they last forever and a day. But I think the Drivetrain and other stuff will work out great. It may also help you, because by the time you get that stuff done, you may need that engine rebuild, and you can get it rebuilt with a Turbo in mind.

Good call Slade, rebuild when the turbo is ready, hmmm... Ok, here's my next question, Im gonna try and track down a t5, which one should I get with the turbo, or other performance mods in mind. I have been told to skip the 4 banger tranny and go streight to the 5.0 tranny. Will this be a pain with what I have now until I can work more power in or will it be ok? Also, what about an SVO or turbo coupe tranny? I need all the advice I can get on this before I think about putting the money down on a new tranny!! Thanx guys!
