Hi all,

I have just finished putting an efi 250 and Ghia dash in my XF ute. Now the bloody thing won't start. It is not sending power to the electric fuel pump.

I have kept the original non efi 4 speed, but for the moment am using the auto inhibitor switch and harness. The switch is adjusted so the motor cranks, so this should be ok (right?).

I replaced the fuel pump relay. All wires to the relay block have power, except the one to the pump.

What else do I need to look at?. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am about to set the whole friggin' lot on fire!!!.

Thanks,

Xf 250

XF250,
I take it that you have just removed the original efi system from an xf and bolted it into your ute.
The XF efi system had a separate power wire for the fuel pump only. make sure this is corectly fitted.
Before you crank it again. When the ignition is turned to the ignition on position without cranking the fuel pump should wind for about 3/5 secs to prime the fuel line before starting.
Listen for this. If it is not happening. Locate the power wire to the pump and try powering the pump with a fused power supply.
Are both pumps fitted? A low pressure pump in the tank and the high pressure pump balow the car.
Without the tank pump the system will not draw the fuel up from the tank.
If no pump still. Remove the fuel tank cover, if not still removed. With a large hammer, prefferably a rubber unit. Belt the fuel tank to shake/vibrate it. NOT TO DENT IT!!!
The pump may be stuck.
Try this to get it to pump fuel.
Try this and get back,
Noel.

dont bother looking for 2 pumps. the xf's only had the intank hi pressure jobs. what fuel tank r u using. ? or is it an after market system with surge tank lift pump and various stuff.
if u still can not get it working. you can use a gas saftey 5 second timer, instead of powering gas solinoids, use it to the fuel pump. they prime for 5 seconds and stop. then when u crabnk they pick a signal up of the coil and turn the pump on. ive used one before to do this

Guys, thanks for the suggestions.
The motor is from a ZL Fairlane (unleaded)
I am using an XH tank and intank pump.
I bypassed the relay and sent power directly to the pump. The pump works well and there is spark, but the car still wouldn't start.
and I also replaced the Computer.
I am now thinking there must be a dud sensor somewhere that is stopping the computer from working its magic.

to me sounds lihe theres no injector pulse. the computer picks a coil signal up from the engine, i may not b right on this one but when u turn ya key on it powers up the coil right. the computer see's this and poweres up the fuel pump. now once this starts pulsing - eg crank, the computer turns the fuel pump on and will fire the injectors, make sure this wire is connected to the ecu and to da coil. , not sure on color. what dist is in it has it got the one with the tfi modul, later version of the two, or has it got ya normal distrubutor hall efect destributer. .. if its the later version id check that out, pretty sure on these ones the ecu gets its signal straight from the dist. one of the 5 wires, but if u got spart then it sounds like its all ok . if u got the lateer model system. if its the earlier model system, then u will have spark even if the computer has no power. just check the ecu is getting the taco signal, apart from that i donk know.

MAKE SURE ALL YOURE EARTHS ARE CONNECTED SEEN A HEAP NOT RUN BECAUSE OF THIS.

- USE A TEST LIGHT TO BACK PROBE YOURE INJECTORS TWO TO CHECK FOR INJECTOR PULSE WHILE CRANKING
any hows hope this helps :>
