So the engine in the falcon is not original. Its actually a factory 289 car but it got an engine swap by a previous owner. Now i wanna install a trans dapt adapter to use a 5200 Carb. But my understanding is that there are different ones for different years. So how do i find out which year i have? Also would a clay smith 264 HDP 12 cam work with this carb? Im planning to buy one. I already did the adjustable rocker swap.

There should be a casting code on the log beginning with a letter, followed by a number. the letter is the decade, C=60s, D=70s, E=80s. The number is the year of the decade. Using this can help you determine the size of the carb hole in the log and what adapter you need.

The block has a casting code on the exhaust side that has the same type of code. Using this number and the table here

http://www.classicinlines.com/SmallSixSpecs.asp#cast you can find you what year engine it is.

Hope this helps.
