Hi Chad didn't you put a 250 six in yours? If so why would you get an FE starter? Should be the SBF V8 two bolt starter.

The ebay FE starter application guide also lists the log head six including the 250 . The C4 small pattern 200 bellhousing for the 2 bolt starter has 3 starter bolt holes + the 3 bolt FE starter can be mounted with 2 bolts.

Notice the 3 starter bolt holes in the (2 bolt starter) 170 200 cid 6 cyl automatic block plate (and inspection plate) - Exact copy of the original Ford part - Made in US.
I believe what matters is starter depth and the starter hole diameter not the tooth count. I think an aftermarket 3 bolt mini starter will bolt to a C4 bellhousing that orginally used a 2 bolt starter. The C4 small bellhousing has 3 threaded starter bolt holes.

3 bolt ebay $94.95 FE mini starter. It has clearance slots for the converter studs. It doesn't look like it needs to be clocked.3 bolt ebay FE Mini Starter .jpg

If you care about saving weight the Robbmc style is the lightest I have found and a full 10 lbs. lighter than the old oem and about 2lbs lighter than the Nippondenso style.

a mini for price of oe is nice, still got that well known rasp ocasionally - may need to shim as might have ordered manual for auto or vice versa. Too bad these did not have the exchangeable ring gear~

All Ford 144, 170, or 200 small sixes that have an Auto Trans including the 1960 to 1964 Ford O or Merc O Matic's as well as all 1965 to 1981170 & 200 sixes with a High Starter Mountl C4's transmission they all use the smaller the same smaller bell housing bolt pattern (the only exception to this is the one year only 1982 200 six block know as the big bell block this resembles 2/3 of the SBF V8 and uses a low mounted starter) with a Three Bolt Starter thats the same bolt pattern as used on an FE V8. Yes there are some FE Mini starters that will bolt right up to the small block Ford 170 & 200 Six with a C4's. I don't know if the one you listed above will fit though you would need to do the testing to find out. For best results look for a Mini starter that's able to be clocked for the best fitment, as one example the Power master 9000-6, The FE starters have two pinion drive depths of 3/8 or 3/4 inch the safest way to get the right FE starter is to measure the distance from the stater mounting pad to the ring gear.

All 1966 to 1981 high mount starters for the 170 & 200 small sixes using a 136 tooth flat type flywheel and the 9 inch clutch with manual transmission use a unqiue 2 bolt starter that looks much like a 289 or 302 type however it is clocked differently so that those Mini starters won't fit, they are too tight against the block. Best of luck.
Hello, I have a 200 six with the 136 tooth flat type flywheel a 9 inch clutch with manual trans and am having a hard time finding the correct starter,Do you know the part number or type of starter I need ? the one I got from Napa is making a screeching noise. and not engaging correctly. I bought my ranchero with this problem and have been fighting it ever since. thank you.

ALOHA; NEW MEMBER NEEDS INFORMATION ON 250 SWAP INTO 1964 RANCHERO, WITH A C4 OR AOD (IF I CAN FIND ONE). THE C4 TO THE 250 NEEDS A 302 - 250 BELL HOUSING AND CONVERTER. DUE THE DIFFERENT SPLINES OF CONVERTER WHAT DO I NEED TO USE? MY PRESENT ENGINE IS A 200 WITH A C4 (LOOKS LIKE ONE WITH NOB ON TOP AND VACCUM MODULE ON BACK). THE 250 IS BEING UPGRADED AND LOOKING FOR PREFERRED AOD TRANS. FORDS ARE SPECIAL DUE TO ALL THE VARIETY. IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE THE AOD BOLTS UP TO THE 250 BESIDE THE TORQUE CONVERTER? I WANT TO DO THE CONNECTION ON THE FLOOR BEFORE THE SWAP. I READ ABOUT THE MOUNTS,AND DRIVE SHAFT LENGTH. I WILL RUN MY PRESENT SET-UP UNTIL I CAN COMPLETE COMPLETE MY 250 UPGRADES AND NEW TRANSMISSION. WHICH C4 BELL HOUSING AND TORQUE CONVERTER DO I NEED FOR MY 250 ? I HAVE READ ABOUT 302 TYPE BELL, BUT WHICH ONE ALSO THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDS TO BE WHICH SMALLER ONE (WITH THE DIFFERENT SPLINES/SIZE ? MY PRESENT ENGINE AND TRANS MAY NOT BE THE ORIGINALS. THEREFORE DOING THE NEW BUILD ON THE FLOOR FIRST. WILL GO WITH A C4 IF I CANNOT LOCATE A AOD BY JULY 1`. I SAW ONE FOR $3000 AND WANT TO KEEP MY COST DOWN. A OLDER C4 WAS LISTED $100. NEED HELP WITH THE TYPE OF PARTS REQUIRED FOR MY PROJECT. I HAVE THE FLEX AND RING GEAR PLATES WITH THE 250. SELLER KEPT BELLHOUSING/C4.

need a new/different thread for post #32 as this is more on starters.
Usually an admin helps w/a move.
If doing so (urself or by admin) it will get more directly pertinent answers and more attention for it as it is (not starters).
Try here:
Good Luck

Hi johilo, and welcome to the Ford Six Forum. Yes X3 please if you would go and start you own new post with just a couple words in it then I can move you first post over into the Transmission & Drivetrain forum and then we can get you some help here is the Link. https://fordsix.com/forums/transmission-drivetrain.76/
The 250 Six with a C4, AOD, Or AODE swap are all very easy to do and parts should be easy enough to find. Good luck

Here is a link to a 250 with an AOD:
