hi i have the ford six 170, and i think that maybe you can help me.

how many rpms do you have when you run at 60 mph??

when i run at 60 mph i feel that the engine is going to blow....(i dont know if the speedometer is lying...)

in neutral when i accelerate at full gas, the tach shows 3000 rpm MAX (i dont know why, the tach is electronic, i do the same test with a digital tach and i had same results.).

I dont know if is not tuned well, or if is a camshaft problem....

first of all, i want to know the rpm/speed question (only for 3 speed gearboxes)

i´m sorry if you dont understand the expressions thats because i have a bad english....

it's gonna be different for everyone because of different setups

you can figure it out though:
what is the diameter of the tire
what type of tranny (although i do believe that in third it should be 1:1 no matter what)
rear-end ratio

if you get those it can be figured out

the tires are not radial, the size is 6.40/13 (like 175 or 165/80/13)

the diff ratio is 3.54 (dana 30)

the tranny is an argentinian one, IKA, 3 speeds 1st no syncromesh.

1st: 11.51:1
2nd: 6.40:1
3rd: 3.50:1

Should be about:-

20.2 mph per 1000 rpm in 3rd ,
or 60 mph at 2975 rpm.

Sounds good to me. Check your differential ratio. Place car in neutral. Place car on ground, roll forward one wheel turn, and count how many turns the drive shaft took. My guess is you have a diff ratio of about 4:1.

Calculations

With textile cross-plies, tires that grow bigger and BIGGER AND bigger with speed!.

My old 1958 Vauxhall Velox PA had 6.40X13's, and they were about 622.8 mm tall, or 24.5 inches. (Aspect ratio is in fact 90%) Revs per mile same as a set of 185 SR 13's.

ok, i´ll try that...

look, i remember that running the car at 60 mph (or 100 kmh) the revs were 3000 more or less, but the engine sounds like if 60 mph were the TOP SPEED, the foot is not totally pushed at full gas but push it a little more really scares me....

my point is that i don´t think the engine have more than 4000 rpm...
