Hey everyone,
I wanted to kick off a new thread to share details about my build and start a discussion on performance tuning for EEC-IV on OBD1 MAP ECMs. I'm hoping this can become a valuable resource for anyone searching for info in the future.
So, I've got a "1995 Ford F-150, 1/2 ton, 2WD, 4.9L MFI OHV 6-cylinder" as AutoZone would put it. Here in Texas, it's considered a classic, so I'm not bound by emissions standards. My goal is to tune a simplified EFI setup without mechanical or electronic emissions. EDIT: EFI is tuned and also accounting for hotter spark, more fuel and more air. Going to start adding some more bolt ons now.
I've heard good things about MegaSquirt and Tweecer for tuning, but after digging around here, I've realized that the Ford EEC-IV is highly programmable. I have a QuarterHorse and I am using TunerPro RT to work with my ECM. Does anyone have any files or tunes they can share for pre 96 4.9l engines that they have cleaned up pretty good?
Also, I'm really curious about the crossflow heads and performance intakes some of you are working on. I'm not aiming for a PowerNation build, but I love working on my 300 and want to make it more powerful and unique. I think it would be a great adition to this community if we could document an easy process of tuning ese ECM's in such a way that things like 5.0 TB's or simple non-intercooled boost setups could be bolted on and emissions/EGR's/thermactors can actually be removed with the ECM accounting for it.
There seem to be quite a few challenges when it comes to performance tuning these old beasts. Let's talk about it!
