Build Thread Pre 1996 EEC-IV EFI MAP Tuning Discussion - QuarterHorse & TunerPro RT

Hello,

Im doing a QH on my 1990 E-150. I have tuner pro rt downloaded and I'm trying to get familiar with it befor the QH arrives. Can I download the files I want to upload to my ecu now? I don't know anything about this so please explain the acronyms if you use any.IMG_5677.jpeg

While you have the ECU out you should open it up and check for leaking capacitors.

Actually I did. Cleaned it to. I sent pics to Mike at tweecer.

He looked them over and approved them.

I’m thinking about tweecer rt for live data collection. Mine would be able to offer support for tuning. What are your thoughts?

What are you trying to log with tweecer that the QH can't?

I don't actually know what the QH can do. So thats a good question.

From what I know, I can map the fuel and spark on the ECU but I'm under the impression that I can get live data with the Tweecer RT. It's only $100 more. That live data would tell me exactly what engine is doing while it's telling the engine what to do. Does the QH do that as well?

If function is the same then the price is more of a determining factor.

Also, Tweecer has support still.

Nice, I assume you mean TunerPro RT? That is the way to go. You will be looking at using the SUB2 strategy if you are running an E4OD. A1C is set up for a V8 and needs quite a bit of work. I would not recommend trying to adapt A1C without Michael's help. We broke out SUB2 which is for your exact setup. The only caveat is it does not have AC idle up functions.

What is the difference between the TwEECer and TwEECer RT?
Both the TwEECer and TwEECer RT provide the same tuning capabilities, allowing you to adjust the calibration for changes in Engine Displacement, Injector Size, MAF "Calibration", Spark Advance, Electronic Transmission adjustments and much more.

The TwEECer RT adds the ability to see a Real Time (RT) data stream of important sensor data and how your changes are affecting the engines operation. The TwEECer RT was the first product to provide this data stream for EEC-IV based vehicles.

Unlike most other "chip" makers, you do not have to shut off the vehicle and remove the TwEECer to update tuning parameters. The USB connection allows for changes to be done on the fly, even while the engine is running.

While the TwEECer can be transferred between vehicles, once removed, all tuning changes move with the TwEECer and the vehicle TwEECer was removed from, returns to the stock calibration.

Use tunerproRT and a Quarterhorse for the best overall community support. View the earlier screenshots for the full dashboard of values that are logged.

reading the thread now thanks

I'm lost in that thread. I read it but I will need some live support when I get the unit.

I see what you are saying about QH and tuning. If you guys have it mapped out then I don't want to blaze my own trail. I messaged decipha and sent him an email. I'm sure he'll reply soon.

Thanks.

Most of that is development stuff. The file you want to start with is attached to the very last post. They'll probably be a little bit more work to do with it once you have the quarter horse installed, but I'll be glad to help you iron it out.

We still need to know more about your engine.

Quick question. Does it have to be a QH chip or can I use a J3 chip? Asking because I can get a blank J3 chip from Australia for a lower price with shipping to Canada than a QH or J3 from the US. The TunerPro website says J3 chips can also be programmed.

You need a qh to tune it. The issue is you will not have any way to tune without logging fuel error and other values. One you have a good running tune you can write that to a j3 chip and sell the qh.
