Okay business has been good so i have opted to switch plans from a 200 to a 250. neat thing is the ease of t-5 to 250 over 200 plus MORE hp and torgue.
Have found a really good machinist who has really latched onto the hopped up 6 idea and is doing all my head mods at an excellant price. I was thinking a t-5 from a 4cyl- but it is rated at 240 ft/lb torgue. This build may exceed that.
Balanced 250 .30 over; with FSPP 268 D cam ;oversize SI valves 3 angle grind;ported and unshrouded head; FSPP dual headers;78 head with 3 carbs(autolite 108 or 112 in center and 34 icts on dual port adapters on progressive link. out board) and thinking about 1.6 roller rockers. Head is about done just havn't milled for cc's yet--zero deck the block and mill the head for 10/1 CR.
Was really likeing the idea of the low end snap of the small t-5 but wondering if i should go ahead and get the t-5 for a 302 as with the 250 and 350/1 rear end that won't be as important and hate the idea of ending up swapping out the t-5 in 6mo-a year cause the 4 cyl t-5 didn't have enough grunt.
The 4cyl. t-5 is cheaper and geared better but will it hold up pulling my 62 wagon around?

That s a goood question

I'm putting a 250 cid motor in my 66 mustang coupe.

I just finished building a currie 9 in rear end w/ 3.70:1 gears and a detroit true trac worm gear posi.

I also would like to know if the t-5's from the 4 cyl turbo coupes will hold up under that low of a gear ratio with a posi especially since I intend to run a turbo eventually.

also waiting for aluminum argie head
trying to science out a roller cam and roller rocker combo that will work, but I digress
looking to run 9.0-10.0 compression ratio for now

school is keeping me very busy though have'nt relly been on the forum that much lately I had 4 midterms last week!

lousy professors

keep six all

My son is currently running a WC 4 cyl. T-5 from a 1986 Turbo Coupe in his 1965 Ranchero. We originally put the vehicle together with a 6 cyl. and that is why we used the 4 cyl. T-5. But then he was given a 1966 289 V-8 and an 8" rear end. The 289 is an "A" code (225 H.P. 305 Ft. Lbs torque stock). He rebuilt the engine 30 overbore, 1968 302 4 barrell heads, Edlebrock performer cam, Holley 600 CFM Carb, Dougs Headers with 2 1/4" dual exhaust with Dyno Max mufflers. The rear end is a 3.00 ratio. He has been driving it for about 4,000 miles now with the 4 cyl. T-5 and no problems yet.

One thing I have a hard time understanding about torque ratings on these transmissions is, the taller the first gear is, the higher the torque rating is. These T-5's all have the same rebuild kits and the gears are the same width.

I have blown a T-5 in my old 85 capri 5.0L It peeled the teeth right off the cluster gear. The car was under warrenty at the time. But it happened to so many people back then that I was told that the cluster gear was on national back order at ford. Took the dealer over 3 weeks to get the parts and fix the car.

Myself I think a T-5 is a good trans, but I would use the heavy duty version for a 250 six. You won't need that 4 to 1 first gear. I think your 250 will make as much torque as a 302 till you get up to 2000 RPM.
The stock V-8 T-5's still had a 3.35 first gear in them.
