200 out of early fox body

I have a 66 6 cyl mustang and a 93 cobra, I was walking thru the local junk for some 5.0 parts a and came across what looked to be a very well preserved inline 6 in an early fox body, from the hood I would say 79- 82, it had a sweet valve cover that said powered by ford, I believe this is a 200, if so what should I pull from this car to make mine better and will this motor be a direct swap, If I buy whole thing, any help would be great, Thanks

The head should be the large log head. You should be able to swap to the front sump oilpan and pickup needed for the 66 Mustang.

Power level rating is lower due to smog gear and I think lower compression ratio but it does have the better large log head with the bigger valves already in it.

If it is high mount starter block then it will bolt right up, of course you'll need to use your old oil pan, pick up tube and water pump plus need to unplug the front oil dipstick hole and plug the rear hole instead.

If it is a low mount starter block then it is a no-go unless you change bellhousings/trannys too. Depending on your setup.

Anyway, there is Duraspark ignition and probably E0BE head, the best Ford production 200/250 head that has the bigger intakes, bigger carb bore and bigger volume log than yours at the moment.

In your case; if it was a high mount block I'd grab everything between radiator and tranny, remembering the ignition box situated in left firewall. If it was low mount starter block I'd take the head, dizzy, ignition box, coil, spark plug wires and maybe some things for spares like alternator, starter relay and such.

Check the block well before you buy, I've gotten a 200 from a 81 Capri with a cracked cylinder wall in #5 (nice flower pot today) and a running, but leaking 79 Zephyr with a crack in the head bolt hole that goes into the water pump jacket area. If anyone has a cure to the 79's crack let me know. Good luck, J.

A good number came with the 200/SROD or 200/C3 combination.

Ohyeah, that's all I see around here at the yards are the straight sixes in Foxes. 79-82, I think. Nobody wants them

That's how I picked up my '83 LTD. Car was sitting in the yard and the lady that owned it called and told me to take it or it was going to scrap. I got it running for about $300.

At least grab ther cover- I painted mine red (the same color as the car itself) then painted the raised letters silver. Gotta love Power by Ford!

Both of my '82s had 200 sixes, late 81 build dates were blue engines, early 82 builds got gray paint!!

Also, both of mine had C5 transmissions. I don't think the C3 was around anymore by 1982.

These engines are stout (check my sig). I tried to "blow one up" by boosting it to extremes, but only hurt it a bit from severe detonation.

Believe it or not, some engines built those last few years supposedly also had forged connection rods instead of cast, but all the sets I have look cast to me.

If you ever plan to swap to a newer, more modern transmission like a T-5 manual trans or AOD (which is something I think EVERYONE should do!!) then the "low mount starter" style block in these late model cars make that task much easier.

The new style valve covers have a more modern block lettering " POWER BY FORD " than the older "script" style. I love 'em, too!
