200 update

Been busy the past week on the 65 wagon's 200. cleaned, sanded and painted the bay area, engine block, bead blasted alot of parts ..repainted, Rebuilt the carb. Installed all new hoses, new clamps, air cleaner, pcv, fuel pump, fuel line, fuel filter, wires, plugs, pertronics, battery, alt. voltage regulator, cables, water pump, therm., belts, retaped and loomed wiring harness...couple of loose ends and I should have her back on the road sunday.

El Pajarito, Both of your engines are very clean! Very nice! I have a question about your 62'. I noticed that you don't have a PCV valve coming out of the back of your valve cover. Is that a stock set-up? I live in Calif. and have a PCV on the back of my valve cover. I realize that Calif has always had more pollution requirements than elsewhere; but maybe you, or somebody else, can tell me if it makes any difference "if" the PCV valve is replaced with a breather cap is in it's place???Thanks, Jim
 
My 65 still has the pcv setup, when i purchased the chrome valve cover for the 62 i decided to put 2 breathers on it for cosmetic purposes, thought it looked cleaner. I havent noticed any problems running it like that...no blowby.

It's not about blowby. It's about scavanging. The reason it's called "Positive" Crankcase Ventilation, is that engine vacuum maintains a steady draw of fresh air through the crankcase, and prevents the buildup of corrosive acids therein. This is specially important on short runs, when the engine doesn't get hot enough to vaporize them.
 
Hey, don't forget to put a new "200" sticker in the air cleaner! NPD has 'em. My old man always said that a clean engine runs better!
