200cid Hard Start..

Well trying to get the kinks worked out of my stang but it's having a hard starting problem when it's cold. Mainly after sitting all night it is very hard to restart.

I checked timing and it's spot on. The gas is good in it and fresh and I have put on a new fuel filter as well. It has a good battery and the everything in/on the dist. has been replaced.

Once the car finally does start it spits and sputters and runs rough for about 10-15 sec. then just smooths out and will run and drive just fine. If you turn if off and fire it back up it cranks up extremely fast.

Any thoughts and ideas would help.

Thanks!

Well not sure 100% what the problem is now but looks like its time for a rebuild.

Today the car runs like it's missing and developed a case of the smokes.

So anybody know a good place to get a rebuild kits for a 200?

Thanks!

Before tearing into the engine do a few simple checks. It might just need something as simple as a new carb or a tune up.

Remove the spark plugs and examine them for fouling.

While the plugs are out a compression check will reveal if the engine is having mechanical problems.

Report back with your findings.

The manual choke worked for me. My car sit's 3 to 4 weeks at a time and the manual choke has worked. My car starts almost instantly then I idle down and the car runs great.

Well my stang has sat for years to be honest so not sure what it could be at the moment. It has a full tune up on it but I have done nothing to the car from the last time it ran besides change out the fuel filter and replace the throttle spring.

I haven't had a chance to do a compression check but will try to get to it this weekend.

Thanks guys

Mike
