I was having your exact same problems. Mine were funnier, though. I could get the car to idle GREAT, like a sewing machine, but it would fall flat on it's face when I gave it gas. I switched from a Holley 1940 to the Autolite 1100, and then it had a stall, but it would catch itself. I learned that that was indicative of the Autolite 1bbl, so I switched it back to the 1940. This time, after a thorough cleaning, it would accelerate REALLY nice, HAUL, even for a 1 bbl, I really liked that thing on takeoff, but it would stall only when I came to a complete stop. I fixed the accelerator pump, and readjusted the float, and everything was really nice. Then my starter took 2 teeth on my torque converter, so I have to fix that next. =P
