5200 hw orientation question

I plan to mount my new hw5200 someday soon. I notice in the posts that the 5200's seem to be mounted in various directions relative to the engine. I've read that the carb should be mounted with the openings parallel to the valve cover. This puts choke toward the firewall, throttle linkage to passenger side, fuel bowl to driver side. In my 66 mustang, the throttle linkage is the most challenging in this position, I think.

Or, I've seen the 5200 mounted with the holes 90* to the valve cover, throttle toward the firewall, fuel bowl in front. I think the throttle linkage may be a little easier to hook up in this direction.

So, the consideration appears to be, what is the "easiest" mount to get the throttle linkage to work on a 66 stang versus what orientation does the carb perform the best? Is carb performance a big issue because of it's orientation? Appreciate any comments, thanks.

There are a couple trains of thought on this. I mounted mine with the float bowl toward the valve cover for ease of throttle linkage connection. Studies have shown that mounting it the way I did will affect Air fuel rario on turns wich can cause a stall on hard turns. I haven't had any problem yet.

If you want to adapt a throttle cable then mount it to where the throttle is toward the firewall. Probably the best way to mount it, but you have to adapt a throttle cable. You can get the parts from later model Fords that have the 6 in them such as the Fairmont and the Fox bodied Mustangs.

If you want to use your standard mechanical linkage then mount it to where the throttle is to the passenger side.

I have it mounted on the passenger side and have not had any problems with the car stalling in corners and I do like to run the backroads. It will kill the engine mounted this way if you do a 360 thru the ditch and into a farmers field......

Clearly a safety feature. Incredible forsight!

I have it mounted with the linkage on the passenger side to make use of the stock throttle rod>Still getting it all together but should be on the road in about a week.

I split the difference, largely because of my adapter. My stock linkage works after some brute force was applied to bend it into submission.

The major mod involving switching the ball stud from the right to the lleft of the throttle shaft. If I were doing it over, I would seriously consider the Carter Weber (DGV) instead.

tony, stovebolt adapter? Assume no cutting out problems when you are up on two wheels in a tight corner?

Steve, would you be able to post some pics of your linkage when done?

I "committed" to the HW, unless Tom would let me trade it back to him for the Carter Weber.

thanks, fellows.

I will post some pics in the next few days.I am in the middle of changing the gen to alt and should be ready to crank.Do not want to post pics until I know it works properly.

Thanks
