MM, I'm From Los Angeles
You were right. Well everyone here was probably right, heh heh.I bought some starter spray. I wasn't getting any voltage from just cranking to get the timing light to "light up" So I did the "free form" approach. Basically just tried different positions with the distributor and sho-nuff found a sweet spot and it fired up.
THEN!
The carb wouldn't reset to idle (messed with the spring and mixture screw.)
This carb was rebuilt 5 years ago and then it sat. There is a flabby sponginess to the idle position. Maybe need a tighter spring to pull it down.
or?? Seems to leak a bit now.
THEN!
The exhaust manifold to pipe union doesn't fit right (remember I bought this not running.)
So, it sounds like a Sopwith Camel.
Someone told me about a little donut you can stick in there but honestly I remember the size of the exhaust might be too small. the manifold is a C3 and the engine is a C6. (I just wanted to get this running)
THEN!
The Alternator or belt was squealing so loud so as to make the whole event impossible. OH MY. Position looks ok. Maybe a slight bit cocked. I've seen worse. Belt is tight. Maybe too tight? May be the belt is too wide? du know.
Maybe I'l try putting the old belt back on for a test. This had a generator before so it is an Alternator issue I theen.
(light bulb goes off in head...is that why this alternator was just sitting around??)
THEN!
The special Late model mustang radiator hose set up to accept the smaller upper water neck didn't hold. Man, just not my day today. That one was a real hood-slammer.
Rad fluid all over a brand new engine bay. Can anyone recommend a proper hose for this setup? I had a step down fitting in the 1-1/2 hose. ( a similar shape hose from another car, cut to size) It may have more to do with the waterneck being old and not having enough lip on the outer edge. I don't think I gave it enough expansion theory love.
Also this thing got hot fast. I was surprised. Is that typical for these?
What pound radiator cap do you guys use on your 6s? I've got a 13 and a 16 around here somewhere.
the sit com continues
...tomorrow....
