63 Comet acting stupid

My comet is acting stupid, it is a 170 M/T 1bbl. I have had 5 different mechanics, plus myself, work on it. The carb has been rebuilt and it just will not act right. The consensus of everyone is the carb. I'm not a great mechanic but I do know it is a fuel related problem. It runs great when the temp is 75 degrees, but much higher or lower, it runs poorly. Adjust it to run good at low idle, it is horrible at speed. Get it so it runs good at speed, it cuts off when you let off the gas, or at low speed. It has only 1 idle adjustment screw and the timing was checked with a timing light. I am looking at my replacement options? I have a 79 Granada with a 250ci 1V, that runs perfect all the time and is easy to adjust? I'm thinking maybe go to the junk yard and pull a simular carb? I already have an extra rebuild kit. What else would share this carb? When did they start using them? I AM NOT TAKING PARTS OFF MY GRANADA. Option B is my 67 Galaxie 289 auto 2bbl has a freshly rebuilt 2bbl. I am considering doing the 4 bbl conversion leaving a freshly rebuilt 2bbl open. Would the 2bbl in question work well on my Comet? Would the 2bbl give me any noticable advantage? What would be your plan of attack?

Is this still running points and a load o mattic? What adjustments were being made to the carb?

73 eldo convert, is it the pace car colors? Mine is.

I say that something is wrong with the carburetor. Are you sure that all of the parts are there and was it put together properly?

Sounds like it is not feeding enough fuel when cold.

I wish I knew more I did not rebuild the carb an old man i know did he was a mechanic at Center Ford in Newport News VA 45 years but recently passed away so i cant ask him. I know the lean rich has been adjusted more times than i can count and I think the float has been adjusted it does this mess when its hot outside too like i said 70 to 75 it runs good in all rpm ranges when adjusted properly if its hot or cold it either runs good in high rpm or low rpm cant have both adjust it to run good in one you lose the other.. Points and such I really don't know I changed the distributor and rotor but didn't mess with the innerds but they looked stock. also has new plugs wires fuel filter.
The Cadillac was a original pace car edition but a previous owner thought the decals were tacky and repainted the car red, I still have to finish my Tempest and the 63 and 65 Galaxies, but then I am going to put the Cadillac back to Indy 500 pace car

The rich / lean thing sounds like the choke. That should only make a difference starting and running till it warms up.

I have not had to do a lot of messing with float levels. I have had real good luck with factory settings. Usually when 'people' have told me I had a float problem it turned out to be elsewhere in the system and the float adjustment was just masking the real issue.

If you are running points and dont know how long they have been in there or when they were last adjusted I would be looking there. A visual check and hooking up a dwell meter will tell you a lot. If the points are out of wack (normal wear) and the dwell is not correct you get a very wacky spark. It may not be your problem but its easy to check and eliminate.

Too bad about the paint job on the Eldo. Its a real track car? Or was it one of the special editions? You would not have think someone would have altered a real track car. I can see ditching the decals but the white red to red red?

It was one of the special editions, came from the dealership in Johnsonville TN if i my research is correct, I know I was a TN car it 2002 when it came to VA I got it in 2006 90600 miles, like I said I will put it back to white
