I have a 66 Mustang, and also a problem with the wiring, wondering if anyone has any ideas about it? Heres the story.
It started with the Ignition Switch sticking, and it wouldn't shut off the car, so I replaced the ignition switch. Everything seemed to working fine. Well then the Voltage Gauge on the instrument panel started going kind crazy. It would stay all the way to the right while the car was running, but the Altenator was showing a normal charge. But at the same time when I would turn on the turn signal the Gauge would go back and forth similar to a windshield wiper motion. Then a few days later I was sitting in the car parked at a Sonic, and the Instrument Panel started to smoke (or it seemed to be the instrument panel), I removed the Instrument Cluster rather quickly, and it seemed to be coming from the Voltage Gauge area. At this point I tried to start the car, and it wouldn't start. I tried leaving the igniton on, and by passing the Solenoid and that wouldn't work either. The car was dead. We pulled it home, and it's sat ever since.
Have any ideas. Also the car has been wired for an altenator with an internal voltage regulator.
Thanks for any help.
