Now that we're up and running again,
here's a couple of pics of some stuff we did to help strengthen the new 250 block.
First up is the Hardbloc. We don't use an engine driven water pump obviously.
Next you'll see two plugs, one is the oil passage plug since we use Yella Terra rocker arms we don't need this oil passage. On the left side of the pic you'll notice a plug that was installed into the water jacket pass thru. We drilled a .100" hole to still allow some water to pass. This mainly just allows more head gasket sealing surface and more distance from the O-ring to the water jacket.
And last is my nemisis......the frigin 250 timing chain!
You'll see that we added an additional dowel pin to the cam sprocket. And yes it's intalled! It's just the angle of the sun! We've always had trouble with the timing boucing around and everytime this single dowel pin is loosen up and retards the cam. So we'll see if this quick fix will help! We have some better ideas, but we needed to get this motor running.
If you look close you'll see an 4 degree offset key on the crank. Unfortunately this only netted us 2.5 degrees advance.

Kelly's car is running good and we made just one little street drive with it for about 15 miles or so. No overheating problems yet with the filled block. Our race was rained out this past weekend, so we'll have to wait until late Feb. to make some passes with it.
Later,
Will
