I changed the air filter on my 66 Bronco and my 04 GMC Sierra today and got the idea of looking for a setup like on the GMC with the air box mounted towards front of engine bay. Could get a carb hat and a air box with the hose from picnpul and an adapter.
Anyone done this? Any problems from this you can think of?
Thanks

If you've got the room, can't think of any problems.

Also can't think of any benefits, either. If you want cool air, run a piece of duct/hose from the snorkel.

Been thinking about that myself. Depends on what carb you're running. As you already know, not just anything will fit under the Bronco hood. I'm running a 4V and one option was to use the stock Bronco V8 air cleaner with the 76-77 style cold air intake intake that runs to the core support. Another is a Spectre low profile cleaner "2.5" dropped base with snorkle's. Running thru the inner fenders pulling air from between inner and outer fender. There is also a low profile carb hat, that could be ducted and place a filter box on drivers side core support. Been awhile since I looked at Broncitis's turbo setup, but vagely remember he had done something like that.

on fleabay you can find set ups with carb hat , tube and oiled cleanable filter for like $40
These of course fit the poular 2bbl and 4bbl carbs (5 1/8th inch hole)

jamyers I should have measured the filtration capacity of those filters before installing but I beleive the square one for the GMC has considerably more square inches of filter medium compared to the stock round 250 filter. The question of course is does this really matter? Someone on here may know the answer to this. A length of duct/hose is a perfectly good way to do this. This is not a high rpm high performance application so probably just fine this way. I stopped at AutoZone and the 250 filter was not on the shelf the clerk found one in the back and told me they sell so few of those they keep them in the back. With hardly any of these on the road these may not be readily available someday. I normally go to Napa.
Explorer I currently have the stock Carter but future will be direct mount 2100. The carb hats I have seen look very low profile so with a carb hat, an adapter if needed and many vehicles at picnpull for various sizes and shaped air boxes and hose I figured it would be not to difficult. Planned to mount above the steering box on the core support and cut an opening in the support.
80broncoman $40 is pretty reasonable for the whole setup I was not aware of these on Ebay.
