ARP connceting rod install

What exactly does the machine shop do to install ARP studs into a 250 connecting rod? I see numerous places online that say a minor machining operation is required to install them but nowhere does it say what the actual machining operation is.

So what they do is torque to rod cap down and then measure the big end. After they have the measurement, they take the cap off, press or hammer out the old rod bolts, and then install the new ones. They torque the rod cap back on and then measure the big end again. What will happen is the new rod bolts can cause the big end to become slightly oblong. In that case, they resize the rod end to the first measurement they took.

I have watched many YouTube vids on this and read up on it. I have not seen one where the rod did not need to be resized after installing the new rod bolts.

Now I understand... I thought it was something specific to an inline connecting rod.... thanks!

Nah, it's just tolerance stuff. The same thing should be done when going to main studs as well. Just make sure one change doesn't change other things.

Any time man! Keep the questions coming lol :)
