Hello all, i am preparing for an install of a oz 2v head on my 66 mustang 200 3 spd(i am also planning a t-5 swap at the same time) I am hoping to get some help to fill out the list of upgrades i will need to install this. I need oz head w/ carb adaptor, getting dual out headers, dual roller timing chain set, adjustable roller tipped rocker arms and pushrods, 6 qt oil pan. I plan to use a new cam 252 or 260 cam? not sure which. Also either holley 350 or 5200 carb not sure which. I also know i will have to change the linkage. Also what must be done to the head when it arrives to make it engine ready and what must be done to the engine? I know i must be missing plenty please fill me in also any opinions on cam and carb would be appreciated and all other info would be great i am forming my plan and want to be ready to start on the car when all parts arrive sometime in september. Thanks for any and all help you all can be. :D

Al, oddly enough i planned to consult you on the direction i should go w/ the t-5 swap. I consulted your site and saw several other posts you have added to. I still have not picked up any of the items i will need but i am actively looking. Any and all suggestions from you would be greatly appreciated. Also what parts do you currently have available? Thanks again for any help. Mark

Tell me how many bolts hold your starter and whether or not you have the non-synchronized 1st gear and I'll take you from there :)

Al

Al, my starter is the 2 bolt type and i have the synchronized first gear. Thanks again for any and all help. Mark

thanks for the cam thought i was leaning that way. Also any thoughts from anyone on the best carb. I am primarily going to use this car as a summer daily driver so improved reliability and performance is my goal. Thanks Mark

The 260 Cam (at least Comp Cam) is great in the 200. Nice and smooth...much better breathing.

Do the T5 swap if at all possible. Probably the best mod on mine so far (next to the pertronix).

you'll most likely need to rebuild the head, three angle valve job, new hardware, etc. are you rebuilding the whole engine? (new rings, bearings, possibly pistons, etc.) if so (or even if you aren't) you might want to get an ARP bolt set to hold everything together
sounds like you've got almost all your bases covered, what're you doing for ignition?
Mike's site (www.fordsixparts.com) should have almost everything you need, i think the only thing he doesn't carry is ignition stuff, and power boosters (NoS, and forced induction), at least, not yet...........

enjoy the trip
evan

PS - have you bought the Ford Six cylinder performance handbook yet?

Thanks again, i do plan on the t-5 swap waiting for parts and some more direction from Al. I bought the ford six performance hand book as soon as i heard of it(great help) My engine has been re-built finished last summer. I plan to go w/ a dizzy 2 for ignition w/ a msd box. Plan to get the dizzy from an 78 fairmont. I think this will be a good set up. Thanks again Mark

A 250 head should bolt straight onto a 200. The "log manifold" ones will, so I don't see why a 2V won't.
Best bet is to whack a 250 block under the 2V head. Lots more grunt. 200s are gutless.

...in comparison to a good 250, that is. 25% extra capacity has a profound affect on torque, not such a huge boost in power

(We don't have to be PC around here, especially if your Aussie!)

Love the black FordTransit Van in your avatar, carnut1100, they came out with 200's, then Ford saw the light in 1978 and gave them a 250.

Re: Carnut's reply. I agree that a 250 has more grunt. Hell a 427 V8 would tear your chassis apart. Bax is talking about installing a 250-2V head in a '66 Mustang. Try installing a 250 block in a '66 Mustang. Not an easy job unless you don't mind driving without a hood.
As far as 200's being gutless I would love for you to take mine for a spin :D

Rick

Thanks everyone for your replies. Rick is right that the addition of the oz head onto my 200 is what i'm looking to do. Also do not let Ricks' cars' pretty experior trick you his car is a sleeper :D ! All parts on there way from azcoupe. Got the full package deal for a full upgrade. Will keep everyone informed of my process as it happens. I am also planning a t-5 upgrade. Should i upgrade the tranny before i install the head and everything else. I am planning to go right to cable linkage as Rick suggested. Thanks again all. Mark

Hi Bax,
Just put a Aussie head on a 250/6 (from a '75 maverick) in my '65 Falcon. The head will bolt on with no problems, but check the compression by C.C.ing the head. If you mill the head you will need washers under the head bolts, spacers under the rocker pedistals and different push rods. H.D. valve springs will have to be bought from Crowcams in Australia because U.S. won't fit because of diff valve stem diameters. I made my own manifold to fit 3-45DCOE Webers. It runs better than my 289-V8 Hotrod. Hope this helps.
Hotrod Bill.
