Cam installation - need a little help

I bought a new cam and adjustable timing set from Classic Inlines and am now at the install stage. The pin for the cam gear is not in the new cam. Do I need to reuse the one from the old cam? If so, how do I remove it? There is also a spacer behind the pin so I'm guessing I need to reuse that too? Thanks for your responses.

To get the pin out of your old camshaft heat the camshaft around the pin area with a torch & you should be able to remove the pin using a pair of vise-grips.
Yes you need the old spacer from your present cam to the new cam & then install the pin.
If you damage the pin they are available in the pioneer parts line & also felpro. Bill

Yes, the old pin goes in the new cam. The pin can be pulled out using vice grips. Before you re install it check it closely for any burrs the vice grips might leave. Make sure there isn't oil or grease standing in the pin hole or it won't tap in. I tapped it in using a light ball peen. My brother pressed his in using a vice with a block of wood to protect the cam gear seat.

That spacer is vital. You must install it on the new cam. It prevents the gear from tightening against the retainer plate.

The billet cam gear is thicker than the stock gear. When you get it tight you will notice that the gear does not pull in flush with the front of the camshaft. This is normal.

FYI - I checked with NAPA to see if they had the pin, in case I couldn't reuse it. They don't have them available in the stores. Factory order only.
