Carb gasket sealant ???

Remounted my rebuilt 1100 ... car cranked up just fine, and only had to make some small idling adjustments.. Problem is this - Ive got gas leaking out from between the gasket and carb and/or gasket and manifold. Happens about 45 seconds after I start her up. Runs out pretty good... I didnt notice any kind of gasket sealer when i took it apart. Should I have used a gasket sealant on this gasket ?? Maybe use two gaskets??... I dont think I over tightened it, I let the motor warm a bit and tightened a bit more (snug) and gas still leaks out. Its primarily from the back side of the carb gasket, and runs out pretty good (enough to keep the fire extinguisher handy trying to see what was happening)

If you are getting liquid, it is likely the air horn gasket; the one between the carb top and carb body. Another source to check is a loose screw on the accelerator pump body. If the source is the gasket on top of the body, then your problem is more likely a float that is set too high. Take off the top and recheck your float setting. Make sure you understand what and where to measure the float drop. I hope you have the instruction sheet or book handy.

Yeah, I measured the float level when I did the rebuild, the kit came with a little ruler, and a reference to how far it should hang, etc. I dont think its the air horn gasket, the liquid is coming out of the bottom of the carb, looks like right out of the bottom gasket at the intake. I killed the motor, let it sit till the fuel dried and carefully started her up again, watching with an extinguisher...the fuel flowed out again from the same bottom gasket area... Im pretty sure I put the gasket on correctly, it does have that extra little hole you have to make sure is on the correct side..
What about the sealant issue, you dont use it on the bottom carb gasket do you??, wasnt sure about that

I'm a llittle paranoid, so I always use a veery light film of silicone of simila soft sealer, to seal the pores. But the bottom gasket should not be in contact to seal liguid fuel. Your problem is elsewhere than the gasket. You might pull the carb off, set it on a bench, take the top off, and fill the bowl with fuel. See if it leaks then. There's still the possibility the needle is not shutting off the fuel flow. Hold the air horn upside down, so the float rests on the needle, then try blowing though the fuel inlet. You should not be able to blow through freely.

Will pull it back off tomorrow and take a look and remeasure the float, etc... If nothing else, I am proud of myself, first carb rebuild and it did start right up

If at first you don't succeed, ah, something....

You should see NO liquid fuel seeping out anywhere. If you have fuel leaking from the carb base, something is wrong and gasket sealer won't fix it.

Go back, check the float, needle, and seat.

also make sure that all of your adjusting screws are still there as there are some that are pretty close to the base
