FUEL IN THE OIL- IS THIS DUE TO FLOODING THE ENGINE WHEN IT DOES NOT START?
WHEN STARTED THE CAR IDLES SPARACTLY, (THE MOTOR SURGES) BUT WHEN YOU GIVE IT GAS IT RUNS GREAT WITH GREAT THROTTLE RESPONSE.
I HAVE A 250 HEAD ON A 200 ENGINE WITH A HOLLEY 1940 (ACTUALLY IT IS A MOTORCRAFT VERSION BUT TAKES THE SAME REBUILD KIT). THE IGNITION IS STILL POINTS.
ALSO i DONT HAVE THE CHOCKE TUBE HOOKED UP AS IT IS BROKEN OFF IN THE MANIFOLD.

Hi Steve,

My dad had this happen to his 65 Ford truck with an inline 6 once. It would ignite and blow the dip stick out! Turned out to be the fuel pump leaking into the block. We switched out the pump and it stopped. Was pretty cool watching it blow the dip stick out thou.

Replaced fuel pump, still having same problems.

Gas in the oil is usually a fuel pump problem, but I guess you eliminated that.

And you rebuilt the carb, but maybe it's worn out. I have an old 1946 on my car and it's pretty "loose". Did you change the fuel filter too?

Yes I changed the fuel filter to, maybe tomorrow I will order a new carb and see if that does the trick but if anyone has any other suggestions I will be more than happy to try them first as they would be cheaper than replacing the carb.

How about double or triple checking the float level? Could be overfilling the bowl.

just a guess, since it looks like you rebuilt it recently.

Or maybe it doesn't "float" anymore?

How can fuel get into the oil from the carburetor? Unless it's going past the rings.

Thats what I want to know.
I am thinking the carb is flooding the cylinders to the point where its leaking past the rings (cylinder wash) or through the valve guides. I want to know if anyone has had this problem before and what the remidy and cause of the problem is. I have checked the compression 115pds average and the plugs look wet but clean.
