over the summer i decided to rebuild my '68 mustang with a 200 in it. having found this wonderful place on the internet i talked to a few guys much more knowledgable than myself about the right carburetor to use on my car. wanting to keep it fairly close to stock i decided to go with a pony carburetor rebuilt autolite 1100. which was recommended to me by at least a dozen of my fellow inliners. i finished my rebuild late in september with phenomenol results, the car ran great for the first month.

for the last 2 months when the car is cold it sputters almost to the point of stalling, on acceleration. i have to stand on it to get it to 40. this only happens when i initially start the car up in the morning, or when the car sits for. basically when its cold. it makes this put noise, and there is no power at all. i thought it might be the fuel pump, so i replaced it. still the same problem. i think its the carb, almost positive its the carb, but i'm hoping someone out there will be able to help me out. i'm dyin here. so if anyone out there has divine knowledge of something like this i would be open to any suggestions. please help!!!!

From your disctription I would check the operation of the choke.

How about some details on the condition of the choke and its setting?

Is it the electric or heat riser type?

Good luck, Ric.

its a heat riser. but to me the problem seems to be way beyond the choke. i can warm the car up for 10 minutes and still the same problem. and i live in southern california, it really doesnt get too cold here. i thought it was the choke for awhile and some people have asked that and said thats what it was, but i dont think so..

Have you checked for vacuum leaks? You know, spray some carb cleaner around the base and see if the idle changes. Sometimes it's as simple as the mounting nuts loosening up. A stuck float will idle fine but not accelerate properly, could also be a faulty accelerator pump.

Unfortunately my car does the exact same thing as you described, everymorning its the same thing, ive been told that its my choke and that it does this because the choke is off and the spring that heats up and expands is streched out, im working to get it rebuilt again but money and time escape me. I want to put back on my other carb its a Motorcraft that I need help finding a rebuild kit for.... if any one could help PM me or email me, thanx and good luck with that if you get any other diagnosis please tell me

was your a pony carb rebuild? they claim to rebuild them so that they're better than they were way back when... i just bought this carb, if it needs a rebuild kit i'm goin postal, as much as it cost. buying that carb from pony cost more than a 2 barrel conversion. we'll see. if anyone else out there has any ideas please feel free do drop any knowledge on me.
