Cobra 6 is almost done! [PICS]

Well, I don't know about Mustang colors, but Black and Ford Red were the correct engine colors for Falcons through May '65 and then changed to Medium Ford Blue after 06.01.1965.

Prior to the change, the valve cover and air cleaner were Ford Red and everything else was painted black. After the change the entire engine was painted medium blue.

You know, for what it's worth.

(PS - Still a nice job!)

IIRC having the wrong color hinders performance

Here is some info from: http://www.tffn.net/1960.html

Color of block and head assembly: Gloss Black (Hi-Temp)on all engines. The only exception is as follows: After June 1, 1965 production date 200 C.I. engines (the entire assembly including valve covers and breather) were a medium Ford blue except the 289-it was Gloss black with Gold Valve Covers and air Cleaner(Gloss Black snout).

Recommended Paint codes:

Red-Orange, Dupli-Color DE-1605 or Martin Seynour 7892

Ford Medium Blue, Dupli-Color DE-1606 or Martin Seynour 7958

Engine Black, Dupli-Color DE-1613 or Martin Seynour 7882

83 fairmont , i think the products are not the same in holland and usa , but i will see next week for the brand of it ,

thanks on checking 66mustang ill look around here also that chrome acually dont look to bad only if i can find some paint to look like that here lol

I have a few gripes about rattle cans. Some are founded on experience, some just prejudice.

•Many are simply "near enough" colour matches.
•The 2V engine is a unique colour - you can't get close with a can.
•Many spray cans flash off too quick, and have poor coverage. At least down here, Ford painted three thick coats of enamel on their engines, and didn't bother masking the bellhousing.

Sometimes your best bet is to get a close match at the auto paint counter, and spray it in 2K (urethane), if this is feasible.

So thats what I've been doing wrong!

ps In all the mustang books that I have they always show 65 stangs with black engines, black heads and red valve covers. I'm not saying they're correct though.

They did change the color in the summer of 1965. The Build date for my mustang is July 30th, 1965. I've talked to people and they said I could go either way and be considered correct to most eyes. Since I'm not making my car concourse...it doesn't really matter. Also since I'm looking for a little more color in my engine compartment (to offset the big open spaces) I'm going to see how blue does. If I don't like it, I may switch it to black.

Righto Slade...
If its not concours, its yours, and its awesome and tastefully done. Nice job!!

I'm eventually looking to do this to a 200, but it won't be in a coupe or vert, its going to be stuffed under the hood of an 80's ranger.

I was serously considering your type of set up with the tripple 1bbls.
Cammed ported head...high comp pistons (if i can find them.) etc etc.

I think i'd have one head turning ranger.

oh yea

SAWEEEEEEET!!!!!!

The color is subjective. I went with gloss black over everything, accented with silver and the vermillion (red-orange) valve cover and air cleaner. I prefer that much more so over blue (wouldn't look good against my red car) and I'm NOT a fan of chrome, never have been.

It will look like that again someday... Of course, now everything will be powdercoated instead of painted so everything will stay looking new much longer than a week.
