Last week while trying to fix a rear main seal leak the tech found a thrust bearing had some of it's surface sheared off. There was a fair amount of movement in the crank shaft.

Anyways put in a new bearing replaced the seal. Seems now the leak is worse and I get low oil pressure coming off the freeway to a light which I read is generally bearing that have gone south. I was able to find a replacement used motor locally but wanted to know if it was compatible with my car.

I know I would be swapping over my new fuel pump, dizzy and rebuilt carb. Is there anything else I should look at? Also I would love thought on how a thrust bearing would go out like that? The car does shifter hard when going into reverse, could that cause this?

Thanks,
Adam

The 66 engine has a dual bellhousing bolt pattern; one that fits a small C4 bellhousing, and the other a larger bellhousing for a 9-inch clutch.
The 65 engine has a single bolt pattern for a smaller 8.5-inch clutch standard bellhousing and the small C4 bellhousing.
The engines are identical other than the bellhousing bolt patterns. Both engines use the same carburetor, and distributor.

So, if you have a C4 in your vehicle, the engine will swap over with no problems.
If you have a standard transmission, then no, your 66 bellhousing will not fit on the 65 engine.

Hope this helps.

The motor I found seems from what I can tell comes with a holley 1940. From what I've read this is a ford replacement, but does the 1940 work ok with the load-o-matic dizzy? Still trying to learn as much as I can.

EDIT: Think I found the scv in the picture. On the 1940 the SCV is on the front near the inlet as opposed to the side on a 1100
Thanks,
Adam
