Do you have to pull crank to install the cam on the 200?

Went and paid the last $42 so engine is assembled and paid for. I went to look at the engine and it is assembled. But he did not put the camshaft in it which kinda surprised me. I asked if he was going to put the camshaft in and he said he can.

Not sure why he didnt put it in.

So...will he have to pull crank out to put camshaft in? Can camshaft be put in with crank and rods bolted up? I know clearance is very very tight.

Cam can go in with the crank in place. Its tight, like you say but there is clearance, otherwise the crank would hit the cam in normal operation.

Note that camshaft is notched to clear rod caps, so it needs to be oriented properly to slide in.

Wow! They really did build these things tight; I have never been inside a Ford small six.

Yep if one of the rods is aligned with the cam it wont go in. I found that out about 2/3 the way in. Before you start just position yourself so you can look down the cam bore and rotate the crank. You will see the rods just slightly get in there but you can find a spot where they all clear.

Remember to put the lifters in before you put the head on and then remember you wont be able to flip the engine till you get the pushrods rockers on to hold them in.

Or you can put the cam in BEFORE the rods/pistons. Having just the crank in is not a problem. But as stated earlier the shaft portion of the cam is notched for clearance for the rods and cap bolts.

Then it is not assembled.
I guess it depends on how much you're being charged.
Did it get new cam bearings? Is it a new cam?

It has new cam bearings and I have the Classic Inlines cam 274 deg dur and .450 lift, 110deg lobe centers. This is in my hopefully soon to be turbo motor running blow through carb and 16lbs boost on E85.

The block got new cam bearings when he redid block so I had the cam bearing journals dry film lubricant coated, not the lifter lobes as those need to wear in.
