DSII will not fit!!

I just got around to doing the Duraspark upgrade today (I know, I know, but I've been busy and its been cold) I pulled the old dizzy and tried to drop the DSII in its place and the hole in the block appeared to be to small #&@*!!!

The engine is a '72 block and the DS is a new one from advance auto.

Should I try to grind the DS body down to fit the hole? I am unsure of how to procede, from what i've read on here this shouldn't have been an issue?

There should be no difference in the size of the distributor hole if you got the right distributor. Maybe you got one for a 300?

I dont think so I asked for one from a 79 fairmont with a 200 maybe he got the wrong one? any way to check and make sure I have the right thing?

8) check the casting number and see when the block was cast.

The block is a '72 according to the casting #s I know cuz I checked when I did the engine swap.

now I wonder about the dizzy though, I will go by the parts place tomorrow and have them bring me another DSII to compare. I know I asked for the right thing but who know what he brought me

Are you sure it's the hole in the block and not just the PITA of getting the gears and shaft to line up together? --Just a thought.

If your refering to the fact that the shaft won't go in at the point just above the gears, I had the same problem earlier this week while doing the Dizzy II unstall on my 65. My Dizzy came from an '81 Mercury. First find a replacement for the O-ring, remove old one and using 320 to 360 strips of sandpaper sand about 1/64 off the two areas you insert into the distributor shaft. I used a dremel to take off the first bit and then smoothed out that with the sandpaper. Be careful doing it that way as it's easy to dig in with a dremel. Thin out even the area imediately below and above the o-ring groove. The sticky by joetrojan covers that problem. After I went to the trouple to sand and make the 81 fit, I checked the 79 abd it slipped in with no problem (Go figure) My hats off and thanks to Joetrojan for publishing that info
