Hey people!, this is brand new for me so please bare with. This is my first I6 that im am trying to get a little more performance out of. It is a '65 200, in a '61 ranchero, the motor is fairly fresh and seems to run out great, im having a problem with the idle, when warms up it will idle at about 1400 rpm, and drop down to 600 when put into gear(C4), it has a 1bl carb but i know its not right for the year,(no acc. pump on side). I would like to put in a duraspark ign. (it has a MSD 6A box)from the stuff i have read on the tech pages, was wondering if one from a 300 will fit?or is there somewhere online that i can order one from that already has the springs done, that is a decent price? also i have a line on a weber 32/36 carb with a clifford adapter, was wondering if it would be worth getting. the car does have a header with dual exhaust all the way back, and is supposed to have a small cam, but i have no info on that. still would like to keep the gas mileage in the low teens to twenty, thats why i got the car with the six, my other is a '64 failane, pro streeted with a 427FE genisis block and only gets about 8, so it sits alot and gets polished. Thanks and ANY info is greatly appreciated.[/b]

You need to ascertain which pilot diameter the existing distributor is. That'll tell you if the Duraspark will fit without modification.

Reincarnation Automotive are one place who'll set the distributor advance curve, but I understand this unit isn't particularly hard to do yourself.

Welcome to The Forum!!!

A DuraSpark from a 300 will not fit.

I don't know what one barrel you currently have, but, in general, a Holley/Weber will be a performance step up from almost any one barrel. It will also have a ported vacuum source for the vacuum advance required for a Dura SparkII. Is it worth getting? I don't know the price, so I can't respond. It is a step up in performance, idle, economy (as long as you drive responsibly) and driveability. They usually take a bit of specific tuning to get right.

Upgrading to a DuraSparkII even without recurving the centrifugal advance is a big improvement. Go for it.

Adios, David

im running a h/w carb on my stock 250 and its an all around improvment. CZLN6 hit it right on the head. i'd definatly go for it.

good luck
