Hey all!
I'm pretty new here so bear with me please.

I have a 59 Edsel with a 223 that is totally done for! It's cracked, leakin' oil and knockin like a wood pecker. I just bought a 79 Mercury Monarch that has a 250 and what I believe is a c-3 automatic transmission, the tranny thats in there right now is a old ford mile-o-matic, I am hoping to use the 250 and the tranny that is in the monarch but I was wondering what mods I am going to have to do, It looks like the engine will sit just fine but I'm worries that I'm going to have to mode some things on the tranny. Any ideas? Any one do a swap like this before and can give me tips?
Anything would be great!

I've been there and a few other Edsel boards, some of em were peeved because I wasn't either going with the 223 or one of the Edsel V8s. Gotta use what you got! I figured here would be the best place because some one would actually be knowledgable about the 250.
Thanks though,
Zach

It should be a fairly straight forward swap, but you will have to modify the mounts and run a new exhaust, fuel line, and throttle linkage.

The transmission should bolt to the original mounts. I'm not sure about the driveshaft yoke, but it is probably the same. The C3/4 will need a cooler. the thing that will take the most thought is the linkage. If you have a column shifter, you may have to modify the detents to utilize the low gear position.

I guess one thing to consider is that the 250 is not oing to be a stellar performer in a 3500 lb Edsel. It will get you around, but gas mileage and acceleration may not be all you hope for.

I think a 300 would be a better option, especially when coupled to an AOD.

Hey thanks alot for the info. Right now I've been really low on funds and the 250 was the onlything that has presented itself as a low cost fix, The gnine in there just won't run, it's so bad and has sucka bick crack in the block I don't think I should even waste my time. I also have a 49 Dodge Meadowbrook that I have to get running soon also, the trans is acting funny I think the clutch needs adjusted, so thats something else I'll have to learn!
Thanks again,
Zach
