Electric Choke

Hi
Ok,I have been asking a lot of questions lately but I am getting down to putting it all together, other than the tranny.
My Holley 5200 has the wire for the electric choke with a grey connector on the end.Where does this go?

It needs to go to a "Keyed" 12V source. The easiest is to connect to the Voltage side of the coil. But remember, the stock coil is only receiving approx. 6-8 volts unless you are running a relay for the newer after market 12V coils.

It needs to be “Keyedâ€￾ because you don’t want the choke on all the time.

Good luck, Ric.

'Keyed' means that when the ignition switch is in the 'run' position it has power and when it's in the 'off' position or when the key is out of the ignition it does not have power.

I think it goes to the stator terminal on the alternator, at least I know mine goes to the alternator for sure.

I keep hearing people say that you can hook it to a Ford external-regulated alternator. But which terminal on the alt?

Edit: Nevermind, I searched (imagine that?). It's the Stator terminal.

The Stator should not have any output until the Alt begins to turn. This post is used to provide a signal to a relay in many cases as a safety feature. When the Alt stops turning the signal is lost and things like fuel pumps and such are turned off.

mysavioreigns, I'm surprised that connection drained your Bat. I would check your system.

That should be a good output to the auto choke.

Good luck, Ric.

Where did you get the carb?
Did you ask specifically ask for an electric choke when you bought the carb?
If you have the right electric choke you should use a relay to hoke it to 12VDC. The relay coil gets hoked to the alternator stator circuit. The alternator stator circuit is an AC signal of about 7VAC and wont provide enough Power to properly heat a DC choke which is what you most likely have.

You know, I just got to thinking...I had a headlights problem that week, and I figured out it was a bad ground. It could have just been that problem had drained it. I'll retract my statement and re-try the STATOR port.

for what it's worth, the first thing we did with an electric choke was to go get a manual choke housing and cable and never use the electric choke again.
