anyone have any advice on where to mount a carter electric fuel pump for use with a 32/36 weber carb on a 66 200ci mustang?

any thoughts are appreciated.

thanks.

I believe I read somewhere that along the frame rail where it won't get damaged by debris kicked up is the best place.

I seem to recall that from something I read when I worked at advance.

I mounted mine in the area where the stock muffler goes. These electric pumps are loud so the farther back the better. I put the regulator in the engine bay buy the carb so I can see the pressure gauge.

I mounted mine in the engine bay below the windshied washer fluid bag. It will be making it's way to the rear of the car, however, as it is loud and obnoxious.

since i got the stock muffler in the mustang i could not find a suitable place in the back that wouldn't have the tiers kicking dirt onto. i was going to put it on the frame rail right near the engine bay but i noticed that the mounting holes on this carter pump bracket are the exact same distance apart as the holes that mount into the engine for the mechanical pump. i put a block off plate on the hole and put the mounting bracket on there. it seems suboptimal but it's by far the easiest place to put it. will the engine virbration or heat cause problems? is the pump too high up?

also i got a relay to power it. the easiest place to hook up the relay switch is the coil since it's right there triiail to connect up to (no splicing anything and no trying to find a switched wire in the harnasses). since there's a relay there it should not draw any power. but i worry that there might be weird noise on te coil lines from the switching. is it okay to use the coil to switch the relay?

thanks guys.

FastRonald is right. As close to the tank as possible is the best. Thats why every new car these days comes with fuel pumps INSIDE the tank. Better to push the fuel than pull it.

i totally understand that but there really no god place in the back to put it. i intend to get sme header in the future and then i would be able to mount it between the tank and the differential where the large stock muffler goes now. i laid under the car for an hour trying to figure out somewhere back there i could put it, but to no avail. the only place that seemed possible was on the frame rail next to the steering box. on the engine was just a lot easier.

would putting it on the engine where the mech pump went be a lot worse than on the frame rail? i don't think it is possible to put it in the rear. has anyone put the pump in the back of a 66 mustang with the stock muffler?
