Fire in the hole!!

My news isn't quite as nice as Jimbo's, but it's good news just the same. I buttoned everything up that I could, drained the year old gas out of the tank and filled it with fresh gasoline. I decided to crank the motor over to prime the fuel system and see what happens. Well, the system primed quicker than I had expected and the motor fired and stumbled a little before I shut it off. I wasn't planning to actually fire it up till next weekend, when I would have more time to time and tune everything. Besides, I still don't have a gas pedal. Yep, the motor fired up without having to pump it. I haven't decided if that is a good thing or not.
I'll keep everyone posted on any progress. Thanks for all your help.

If you re-used an old carb that you didn't completely drain, it shouldn't have a problem firing right up like yours did.

Hey I didn't think about an old carb having gas still in it. That wasn't my case. I have a new Weber 38 DGAS.

Well............., how did she sound? Did ya have the headers un-corked? At least you know you got the dizzy in right and wired the petronix correctly.

Are you kidding that is great!

I am sure it was OK to run over a couple of times... that wouldn't hurt anything.
However in the future... pull all the plugs and just crank it over a couple of times.

But believe me. I killed a battery trying to start mine before I rotated the dizzy, I would have preferred it to fire right up...

(But it did fire right up today!)

Once you get everything ready next weekend you at least know it will go right off when you want it too...

I would consider this all very good signs!

No, I did not put the headers on yet. I wanted to get the car running with the old exhaust then take it to an alignement shop and then to an exhaust shop.
The few moments that the motor was running, it sounded like I had an exhaust leak. When I am ready to fire it up, I will most likely push it outside the garage and away from the house, just in case..... and I have plenty of fire extinguishers as well. The one thing I have noticed since Sunday afternoon is the strong smell of gas in my garage. I think that may become the norm.

Yeah, I learned the hard way about killin a battery.
1. The (hardly used) battery has been sitting on my work bench for the last year.
2. I now know I should pull the plugs when priming the fuel system.
Lessons learned!
