first post/need help

Mechanical and chassis parts will swap easy if around same years. Body parts would Depends on the body style year but there is a lot of interchange for the cars. Get the Vin Code Under hood near edge of fender next to the coil spring tower and Door Tag info (on the drivers side) for both that will help narrow it down.

Most of the Ford restoration sites will have a Pertronix unit for you to buy. They will want the year of the car and size of the engine. They have the Pertronix and the Pertronix II [Pertronix two]. The 'two' had a couple more functions but some of the guys here will say it is a little less dependable. Get the original Pertronix and hook it up according to instructions. You might want to get a 12v coil to go with it. However, just go with the ignition unit and you can decide later if you want to get a coil.

The advantage of electronic ignition - any kind - is that you get a bigger, more dependable spark and more complete burning of the fuel. The engine will start faster and run more evenly. That is not to say that the points ignition is no good. Many of the guys here still run them and are very happy with them. I am sold on Pertronix so far. You only have to make all the setting adjustments once and you are good to go.

The Mustang has a 12 volt system but a 6 volt coil. A lot of guys replace the 6 with a 12. I don't know the voltage of the older Falcon, whether 6 or 12. The Pertronix runs with either. The 12 volt Blaster coil puts out a lot of juice. The 6 volt less. If your coil is good, then leave it. If not, replace it.

this car is a long(er) term project for me, but realistically, how much should i expect to spend to restore the car plus some mods along the way?

just get it runnin - @ a minimum cost. use junk yrds if U can (I just don't know ur section of the canadian prairie regarding availability of these oldsters). ele prts R best from the 'store' in most cases, ck in w/us if U want on decisions between the two.

The one thing I say to most who ask that Q is get the end goal/application in mind thru some solid research (got some other sites for U 2 study) & comparing that in ur mind to what U want/need. Get 1 rig in ur mind that is firm, don't change that but instead wrk hard to fulfill it w/o wavering all the way to the end (so many new to this start in 1 direction, go to another, and then a third & come up w/a mess that cost them alota money). Like U say it can B a long term project. Lots of adults give up 1/2 way thru. Safety and running well come 1st, looks later. Again, as a 1st one, stock, reliable, simple may B the best. You'll get some experience that U can use for the next /or/ when done & in use awhile U can adapt to ur needs as they change. Heck, by then U may want something entirely different! 8^0
So can't answ well till knowing the current condition. So far it's $80, no? Got a job, allowance, 'family bank(er)"? Let's C how lill we gotta 'tap' that. I'm an adult & must live by that rule myself...
Thanks 4 the chance to B involved, hope I aint blabin too much!

i know i need to get it running and all that good stuff first, then ill worry about the rest. once i get the car home ill put up some pics to give you guys an idea of what im up against. thanks!

i know...thanks!
I think U need 25 posts 2 put up a pic. Locate the $15 book folks mentioned from Dennis:

( falcon performance . sundog . net )

Buy that, again it's called "Falcon Performance Handbook". Just got updated again. May B find the cast in numbers on the different motor prts (block - near the exhaust 'down pipe', on the "intake log" to see if they match the VIN tag, side of the carb). Also @ some point you'll need a Haynes or other "cheep" shop manual to C how prts come apart'n go back together, get tq specs on how tight to go w/somea the important nuts'n bolts, measures on all the fluids you'll hafta replace to keep the vehicle from gettin ruined. ...Meanwhile C if U can get to 1) classic in lines dot com and (it's been so long I forget); 2) ah...phony carbs?...
hummm, ahhh. help me out here guys ? couppla three sites to help get em up to speed a lill -

(I use a bronk site, FTE, here, Pirate 4X4, bronco specific vendor sites, not what he needs).

Click on the Fordsix.com at the top of the page. That is the Classics Inline site where you can buy the Falcon Performance Handbook. That's step one and you will get more ideas than you can possibly fulfill from it. The other on is Pony Carburetors. You might also look at Clifford Performance, 6=8 is their motto.

http://www.cliffordperformance.net/index.html

Check the magazines "Mustang Monthly" and "Mustangs and Fast Fords." Some of the Falcon dudes can help you with more Falcon stuff.

Here are 2 other good free to join Falcon sites , like here be sure to read the rules - www.tffn.net [lots of members {including some in Canada} and data] , http://www.falconearlybirds.com [smaller and limited to 1960-63 1/2 Falcons only] . For The Ford Falcon Performance Six cylinder Handbook there is a new website - http://www.falcon6handbook.com . On the tffn site , I have seen discussions that Pony Carburetor is having troubles , besides they don't do a 1904 or one with the Loadomatic system . For a standard repair manual I would recommend a copy of the factory manual like this - http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-1963-FORD- ... 1767wt_825
