Ford Durango

hello.
Wondering what would be the easiest, least expensive, quickest things to do to a ford 6 in order to improve power because it seems underpowered, weezy and weak now.
Reluctant to swap engines because the car is a Ford (Fairmont) Durango and the 6 is original.
Still not too bashfull about swapping if money gets in the way of upgrading the 6.
thank you for helpful advice

Welcome to the forum!!! I have moved your post to see more people and it seems more oriented towards this crowd

for simple upgrades,
stock bottom end
2bbl holley directly mounted
turbo with 15psi...
this will net 240hp and 310tq at the tires... as good or better than a v8 swap...

Now I understand you don't want turbo fuss... yeah it's scary so another option...
2bbl direct mount on large log head (1978-1983)
264/264 112 .450 cam
ignition to some DSII
this will be the most bang for buck, and will net about 120hp at the tires. almost double of a stock i6 200ci... or 250ci...

more info will help us channel the advice you are looking for.

Good luck and congrats on the inline!

Welcome to the site YesDurango6, I have only seen a few of the Durango's, glad you are keeping it going

Welcome to the site YesDurango6.

You already have a couple of items that MPGmustang recommended, the DSII distributor and the large log head. What is the casting code on the head; it's found on the top of the intake log between the carb and firewall?

You can do a poor mans recurve of the distributor by changing out one of the advance springs. The direct mounting of a 2Bbl carb is a good upgrade.

I recommend getting the The Ford Falcon Six Cylinder Performance Handbook found here:

This handbook will answer a lot of your questions.
