new carb= check
adjusted timing = check
properly inflated tires = check
pertronix, coil, new wires and plugs = check
new u-joints = check
new suspension= check
better gas milage....would be priceless....currently at about 16-18.

what did I miss?

getting a compression and vacuum check tomorrow....anything else I shoould have him check? He is gonna put some plugs and re-time it (AND FINALLY FIX MY OIL LEAK!!!!!!!) :x

be sure your brakes are not dragging and when the light turns green, let everyone pull away while you take your good 'ol time. That makes a huge differance.

I can relate. Check your breaks. My front drums really dropped my gas mileage. I'm getting 20mpg city driving.

Easy on the accelerator pedal. :)

8) dragging brakes, low gears, not enough timing, carb adjusted a bit rich, choke not coming off fully, agressive driving habits all can conspire to reduce fuel economy. my falcon gets 21 average city or hwy. of course on the hwy i run at 70, towing a trailer, through mountains, etc.

I just checked mine- the well worn 170 gets 14.6 mpg city or freeway-doesen't matter. As soon as the suspension swap is done, that 2bbl carb is coming off!

Another thing to check is your speedometer & odometer. If you have done any kind of transmission swap, make sure that you have the correct number of teeth on the gear at the end of the cable that goes into the tranny. I swapped from a Fordomatic to a C4, and it threw my speedometer & odometer off. While this doesn't affect the actual mpg your car gets, it can give you a false reading, which is just as bad.

Brakes! I have seen the hose to the backing plate on the front brakes clog. At this point the hose acts like a check valve. You can apply enough hydraulic pressure with your foot to overcome the blocked hose but the wheel cylinder is not able to force the fluid back so the brake stays on. Right up to the point where you're always pulling to one side you may not notice it. If you have the original brake line hose in the front I would replace them, they aren't that expenceive.

Good luck, Ric.

new brake linings recently
odometer checks fairly accurate

we think the vacuum tree is wrong...causing not enough or too much advance....

after that i checked, we will get timing perfect...and adjust carb too.

my driving is not too agressive. not riding clutch....

keep your fingers crossed

It was found that my vacuum advance was way off...

I got new valve stem seals and the mechanic timed it and tuned the idle. IT IS RUNNING GREAT NOW. We'll see about the gas milage.

Ric's comment on the brake hoses bring's something else to mind. The backing plates on the brakes on the 8 inch I got for my car have really bad grooves in them where the shoes rub- so bad it's possible the shoes could hang up. I had to have them welded up. On that subject, Ric if you need a good alingnment shop Vic's Renton frame and axle helped me on some machining and such last week so I will head to them after everything is put together. Mike is a very knowledgeable guy.

It's a small world isn't it?

Mike is a great guy. We have the same house number. Mike lives on 203rd Pl. SE. and I live on 203rd Ave. SE. I had just moved into the neighborhood (13 years ago) when he dropped off a $12,000 check from the sale of the house I had just sold. The mailman had delivered the check to his place by mistake. I have trusted him ever since.

Mike has been around since the late 60’s and has been in the business for some time. He’s the type that won’t repair something that isn’t broken. That kind of service is hard to find.

It is indeed! I had a feeling he was a good guy. The place I usually go is to Dan at Clark's Alignment in totem lake- he's the same- does not fix what does not need it- but it's kind of far to drive from where I live now on new tires on a front end that has just been rebuilt

Those are the human nature stories I like to hear about. Just everyday people being GOOD people. God bless them.
