I have a 200 Ci I6 in my Ford Fairmont, now I have been contemplating sticking a 302 in it because it would be fairly easy and i could keep my C4 but as I did some research I have heard on many sites that I6's are great for low end torque but I searched for parts to soup up my lame 6 but am not able to find anything for it. does anyone know a good way to get power out of these and any performance parts that are available for them?

Welcome to the board! If you go back to the fordsix homepage there is a link to the Shop. Browse around in there for a while and you will find everything from heads to cam kits to headers. There is also a company called Clifford that makes parts for our six's. Matt.

Hello fairmont guy,

FIRST:
Buy this book http://falconperformance.sundog.net/

If you are not convinced, I will sell you a completely redone roller 302 engine with your choice of 5 different intake manifolds. It was never installed, because I am building my 6's. By the way, I'll give you something for your 200 engine on trade.

Really,
Charles

Welcome!

Now run away!

Seriously though...think about what you want from your car.

If you want lots of HP (more then 300RWHP)...go V-8

If you want lots of HP Cheap...go V-8

If you want respectable HP, a unique look...stick with the 6.

Remember all the other stuff that has to get replaced with the V-8. Front end, spindles, rear end, springs, transmission. etc.

My advice. Build up the 6 for now a little at a time. Nothing wild. See if it's for you. While you do this, start doing V-8 suspension modifications, 5Lugs, 8" rear, springs, etc. Then, when you are all done with those mods, then it will be easy to put in the V-8 if you desire, or you can keep and work on the 6. Most of the really expensive head parts for the 6 will not lose value overtime. It's not like buying a set of edelbrock heads, using them for 10k miles, and not being able to sell them for list price again. 6 cylinder performances heads are used to begin with. Mine for example. I know that if I wanted to putin a V-8, I could sell my Aussie 250/2V manifold and head for the same amount as I put into it. By the end of this winter, my car will have everything necessary for a V-8, except the engine. All upgrade suspension, transmission, brakes, etc.

Now, I have the option to change if I ever desire too. But I will warn you. I embarked on that path above to a V-8...and I ended up keeping the 6.

Slade

PS, look at people's websites here...you'll find all sorts of things to do.

IF YOU WANT ADVICE THATS RIGHT ON...stick with FORD SIX

best info any where, any time....

hey charles!!! how much for that 302?? i am looking for one for my other stang.

if you actually want to build up the six you are one of VERY few people that would do it. LOL im one of the only ones i know of that hasnt ditched the 200 for a v8 (eventutally i will but not right now) in our cars though its so easy to put a v8 in its not even funny. you actually dont have to upgrade the suspension that much. put in a 8.8 out of a turbo coupe tbird or a mustang, get mustang 5.0 springs, and mustang brakes and thats all you basically need to handle the power (NOT THE BEST just handle it) im a big fairmont zephyr nut (hence the name) so any more question feel free to talk to me.

Keep in mind that gasoline is expected to be $3.00 a gallon or higher this summer.

Thats a important consideration when it comes to building a I6 or a 302.

also remember that the six is lighter. less weight means less power needed.

les weight also means better handling.

the 302 route is definetly inviting, i know, i even went out and bought a 68 4v 302 (BTW, that is one wicked engine!) but have been hesitant on installing it. it kinda depends on where the 2.3 head comes out. if it will work the head will go onto my 144 and a v8 will never touch my bird, if it doesn't it will get 302 untill i get a (turbo)six built
