Hello. So I'm thinking of ordering my header for my 68 Mustang soon, and am looking for opinions on which has the best stock single exhaust mounting. I want to get a dual out so I can eventually make it dual exhaust, but for now it will just have to go into a Y-pipe, and into a single out. I've seen a few pictures of these headers that are sold here, but am hoping to get feedback from those who have them, and what worked best. Also what are the positives, and negatives of having a header? Lastly will putting on this header require a change to something else for it to run right?

I did buy the Performance book, but have no idea where it's at right now. Anything will be helpful right now. Thanks

I have owned Pacemaker headers for the Ford small six, and also have a similar set, different brand (which rapid-onset dementia has caused me to temporarily forget the name of  ) on another 200.

Advantages of a header (in no order):

•Street cred
•Slight increase in fuel economy
•Quieter exhaust
•Ability to enhance internal engine modifications

Disadvantages of a header (again, in no order)

• Cost to buy and install
• Visual deterioration unless coated
• Negligible performance gain on a stock engine

Not everyone agrees with my opinions, but they have been formed by personal observation - not magazine articles, adverts or dyno days. There may be differences in your personal application of headers, which sway the results in another direction.

Regards, Adam.

p.s. I am also of the opinion that Clifford's port divider is a waste of time fitting.

recomend the Pacemaker or FSPP, simply cause the ease of installation, great clearence, good looks. the problem with clifford headers are the 5&6 pipes coming from the cylinder are way to close to the starter, lots of heat increase wear and breakdown, Clifford also takes forever to get and their coating sucks. Go with ford six performance parts, Mike wont lead you wrong. Stock to mild engines actually benifit form a (Y or X) pipe, increase back pressure, also i would recomend a port devider.

Thanks for the replies everyone :D

At least I think I remember reading this but...... if I change over to headers will I need to modify something else (components, timing, etc.) to get the most out of it? I thought I read something like changing one thing will require blank to be changed too. Also to go along with that would anyone recommend an upgrade to something else that works great with the header upgrade?

The FSPP header is looking like my choice at the moment, or the Pacemaker if I can afford it. What is the average time receiving one after ordering? Clifford I've heard has the reputation of receiving your items whenever they decide to ship it out not to mention problems here, and there (as the 5 & 6 pipes were mentioned earlier).

Sorry if I've asked tons of questions. Lately all I've known is getting my car to run properly, and now that it's been running great for sometime I'm looking at the upgrading fun. Hopefully this won't turn into a big mess of some sort. Thanks for all the help so far :)

First, if I am correct, Clifford redesigned their headers once the Pacemakers hit the market. So I don't think starter clearance is an issue anymore. But I'm not 100% certain.

Next, I have both headers in stock and usually ship within a couple days, sometimes the same day (depends on how many hours I work at my day job).

Either header will work fine on the 68 stang, both are great quality. Do yourself a favor and order them ceramic coated. Its well worth the money in the long run, and a lot cooler under the hood.

yes fspp ships very fast i remember when my dad ordered them for me at chrismas time last year he received them sithin a week and a half if i remember right and when i ordered my package deal i was caught off gaurd at how fast we got it cause i had nowhere to store the stuff but all in all i love FSPP i just cant wait till i get som more money to buyu more stuff
