Holley 2300 throttle sticking

I just put a holley 3200 on my falcon and have a little bit of a problem. When the car is running the throttle does not seem to close all the way, it stays a little bit open so that when I let off the gas at a stop the idle speed does not come all the way down to where it is set. I can push the throttle the rest of the way closed by hand and then it idles properly. When the car is off the throttle closes all the way.

any ideas about why the throttle stays open when the car is running?

Check to make sure that any part of the throttle linkage is not hitting any part of the intake/valve cover/sticking on something. Then make sure your throttle return spring is strong enough to close it. I would bet your actual linkage is sticking on something.

no I know thats not the problem... unless it is only sticking when the car is running, because it seems to close fine with the car off? I will check again to be sure though.

Are you sure it closes with the car off? Maybe the opening is so nominal that you just don't notice? I can't think of anything that would keep it open while it's running, but then close it while it's off. Maybe someone else will be able to help you! I'm kind of interested now.

well I looked at it again and maybe it is the same with the car off? can't tell, but when I rev the engine and then let off the gas I can then go and push the throttle lever and it closes up a little more and the idle speed drops to where it should be.

Check your throttle return spring. You might be using the old one that is a little too weak. When I changed out the 1100 to a new one, the original (factory) spring basically wouldn't pull the throttle plate closed. I went through a couple of different ones. The one that actually closed it was so stiff that my foot got tired holding the gas pedal down.
It turned out that there was a bump or some casting flash or something on one of the rods or tracks or shafts. Maybe it was the accelerator pump. I got that sorted out and didn't need the heavy spring. Anyway, I got an assortment of springs at the part store and found one that worked to replace the VERY weak original spring; strong enough yet not too strong.

I found the throttle lever was hanging up by fooling with the accelerator after the engine was thoroughly warmed up after driving a while. When it started to bind, I pressed the throttle lever back down to seat and tracked that. What happened is that as the metal warmed up and expanded, it would eventually restrict the function of whatever was binding, the knick or flash or lump or whatever.

ok, I'll check out the springs

other than that and a stumble slightly off idle that I need to tune out the carb is running great :D

then I need to figure out where this squealing noise I have is coming from  (I think the transmission?) then I need new weatherstripping for the doors
