How many qts. of oil does 223 rear sump oil pan hold with FL1-a filter? 5 or 6 qts. don't think I have right dipstick or I'm just a dipstick and not putting enough oil in, barely shows on dip stick with 6 qts, oh and my drive way is on a incline. Thanks TRT.

Do the cars have a rear sump pan? The trucks have a mid/front sump design and they take 5 qts, IIRC. I thought the cars ran the same basic pan, since the oil pump and pickup is more-or-less at the front of the motor. You're running a '58 and up engine, correct?

That would have saved me alot of work because I had to build a new true front sump oil pan, and modify the the pick-up accordingly, to clear the axle once I lower the truck.

As I am learning, there were evidently some differences. I thought they were all the same, but there have been some problems that have cropped up in the last week that says there were different pans. I do not know where to go to find out the differences. Hopefully, someone in the know will chime in.
