Now that I have experience repairing and installing a 240 engine, I am almost completely convinced that I want one in my land yacht T-bird. Only problem is that the wrecking yards only seem to have 250s in their cars.

So, if I go with a 250 (not saying I will), what will I lose? I understand that AODs and C4s that fit a 240 don't fit a 250? I know the head/manifold is one piece (I think), but it that really a problem?

I at least know the 250 would fit into my engine compartment.

What 240 stuff can I reuse on a 250?

8) for engine parts, virtually nothing interchanges as they are two different engine families. however, any bellhousing that will bolt to the 250 also bolts to the 240. same with flexplates and flywheels. personally i would go get a 300/AOD combo from a truck and swap that in your Tbird, rather than mess with a 240 or a 250.

For economy the one piece head/manifold is actually a benefit as it provides quicker intake heating after startup and a more constant temperature after warmup. For high performance the log head is a dog.

The 250 will be somewhat easier to stuff in the limited space in your 'Bird.

The 250 hauled those old Granadas around OK. Maybe a bit lighter than the bird, but you're going for economy, not performance, right?
