Well, if we've learned one thing over the years, it's never say never when it comes to these engines. Doug, it's possible that there may have been skinny bolts, but looking at my heads, I simply can't see what good they would do.

If I do another log, I may open that bolt hole up and enlarge the oil passage.

Well, it's always fun to add to the confusion.

I just pulled the head from my 1980 Mustang high-starter 200.

All the head bolts are the skinny shank with the shoulder up near the bolt head. All the rocker shaft bolts are skinny shank. All the shaft mounts appear identical.

Since I've ordered the OZ 2V package from Mike, I'm following this thread with interest.

Doug, have you tried this set-up you mentioned (using the stand that doesn't have bleed off).I remeber I tried once to run the engine without the valve cover and believe me there was plenty of oil flowing outta the shaft and rockers. Do you think using this stand will improve flow????
Also it looks from that post you found that oil flow will be compromised if the head was milled a lot. How much did you mill the 1980 head and how much the 1966 head. Did you see this oil passage reduced???

I believe that skinny bolts or not, these passages are the MAIN thing we should pay attention to.

I was actually with my car today, it's been a while..

All of the head bolts that came off the head are the same.

Alex,

Yep, I swapped stands yesterday and am sure that the rocker arms are getting a lot more oil now! I fired up the car and ran it without a valve cover for a minute or two with the old style stand and there is a LOT of oil that flows out of that bypass tube.

More oil means more lubrication, especially with the way I thrash this thing

As far as the bolts go, I guess its just a personall preferance on how you want to assemble the motor

I'll take a look at my 66 head this week when I get a chance and see how that oil passage looks on mine. I honestely dont remember how much I removed off the heads anymore....It might be on my website....I'll take a look when I get a chance!

Talk to ya later,

Doug

Never really noticed the oil pressure. I'm driving it to work tomorrow so I'll see if it reads any higher and get back with you. Factory gauge though, So I' cant give a accurate lbs reading..... :?
