Installing C4 on inline 200 motor

Hello everyone, first time posting so be gentle!

I am working on a 3 speed to C4 conversion on my 1967 mustang. I have almost all the parts (waiting for my vacuum line) and wanted to at least get the tranny installed while I waited for the final part. Was working on this last night when I ran in to a snag. I can get the tranny bell housing all lined up to the engine block and flexplate, I know the tc is seated properly, but I have a guide pin on the engine block (driver side) that is about 1/2" off target. I got the bell housing from a local mustang restoration shop where they do some grade A work, and was told it is for my 1967 engine, so I assume its the proper one.

So, can I alter the bell housing to get this guide pin to fit or can I just cut the guide pin off? Its a 4 bolt bell housing and the guide pin is only to help line it up, correct? Anyone else ever have this problem?

Thanks for any tips or advice!

No you can’t just alter the bell and or cut off the dowel pins they locate the bell housing in the proper location it is very important. As is also using the proper bell for the year block. Check this post may shed some light on solving your problem. In about the middle of post are the bell part numbers so you figure out if you have the right one for the year of block.

IIRC, when I went from my C4 trans to my t5 trans I had a guide pin in the wrong hole, what I did was find another place for the guide pin that would work with the trans belhousing.

I went form an unknown small bell 65 bolt holes C4 to a 67-71 belhousing,

You can pull that pin out, I highly recomend that you put in in another spot on the block that will work with your setup, I think it's important as you will find that it really helps keep the trans lined up and striaght when your installing which in turn a straight trans is a happy trans... I've seen to many borken flex plates from miss alignment.
